Another Denford Bowl lathe hopefully back from the dead!

If you look at my original pics you will see the motor fitted - 3PH - and wiring - non original with added lock and panic switches plus the added wiring for the dust extraction. I had to change the star/delta configuration and otherwise replace everything with the VFD and remote . I have zero...

Another Denford Bowl lathe hopefully back from the dead!

Hi Brecien I went down the same road last year - don't know how to do a link but my thread started in July 22 Mine already had a replacement 1HP motor but even with my beginner's tentative rough cuts the motor can struggle. If you are planning on big blanks you should consider a VFD which will...

    Reviving Denford Viceroy

Finally some time to catch up with this …. needless worry about the bearings …. all installed with no problems. Opal Green from paragon was not as bluish as I’d hoped but it went on anyway! The inverter and control panel from Newton Tesla arrived and all worked fine with the old 1hp motor on the...

    Reviving Denford Viceroy

Some progress ... the day after I took the spindle out to send to Ian..... an SK114 chuck @ 1 1/2" x 8tpi appeared on eBay - mine for £155 So I can leave the spindle as is but replace the bearings and belt seeing as it's out I've now got the new bearings and v-belts for the spindle and...

    Reviving Denford Viceroy

Here's the inboard thread Here's the other I'll have to dress the Stilson tooth marks to get the bearings off but if you can make the hole circular again I can modify the locking lever to suit. I'll be really pleased if you can get this to 33x3.5mm.

    Reviving Denford Viceroy

Thanks Sideways I think you're probably right about the colour but I've asked on the Denford forum. It's not a big issue but I'd like to keep it original if possible. I might try to sell on the chuck as is unless I really need to recycle the backplate. I'm waiting for a response from Axminster...

    Reviving Denford Viceroy

Thanks clogs The belt I had in mind is ultimately Michelin so maybe OK. My 30 year old Audi is also glad of the lift .... fortunately not needed too often. My paint skills extend as far as a 3" brush I was planning on Paragon machine enamel

    Reviving Denford Viceroy

Thanks Phil I'm beginning to think that's the easiest option. Maybe cannabilise the backplate from the Burnerd, or there's a cast iron blank backplate on Amazon or get the SK114 from Axminster with a smaller spindle bore and get it bored out/threaded bigger.

    Reviving Denford Viceroy

Hello people, When Covid started I decided It was a good time to scratch the itch and finally get my first and last lathe! I’m only interested in bowls etc and short Graduates are rare and seem to go for big money. So two years later I’ve finally got a Viceroy TDS6. Paid £500 for that + Record...

    Western Red Cedar joints

Thanks for the advice so far. Favourite seems to be PU (but ChunkyMonkey's using TB3 for his greenhouse build) :? Not much difference in min. working temp 5C vs 8C I guess I'll have to try/test both. Now what about the screws? - I know about staining but if they're hidden will it matter? And...

    Western Red Cedar joints

I'm making a greenhouse. The current plan is for dowelled joints initially fixed with a screw But which glue is best? Would like waterproof/easy clean up/long open time Today it was 6C but time is not an issue if I have to wait longer for the glue to cure or a warmer spell before March! All my...

    Greenhouse design

Thanks for your interest and advice. WRC appeals because it’s traditional durable easy to work and smells nice. My first thoughts were to make the wall section framework – three rectangles and a triangle with dowels/glue/screws and rebate these for glazing with butyl strip/glass/silicone-sealed...

    Greenhouse design

I’m looking for advice to design and build a replacement greenhouse. I have an existing stone gable + three dwarf walls – the wooden structure was dangerously rotten and I dismantled it a couple of years ago. ( It went on the bonfire – first mistake – I should have done a post-mortem to see how...

Aligning dual-lift P/T tables (Jet etc)

I initially thought this old thread was my salvation.... I bought - unseen - a JPT-260 from e-Bay It looked in very good nick but planed a slight bevel across the wood - increasingly obvious after several passes I think it was ok in thicknessing So I decided to reset the table alignment - that...

Just to complete ( I hope) the story.... Worktopexpress are unhappy to have joint in cutout Barncrest are - and will do cutout, prepare the buttjoint with biscuit/bolt and test-assemble before shipping They will also make me an extra large island top at a good price. Many thanks for the advice...

    Oak worktop in long length

Thanks Jason Not sure what they thought I asked! What I did ask: "Could I put the joint at the hob cut-out?Could you prepare this for biscuit + bolt?" i.e. to finally assemble onsite If the cutout and joint prep was done on their premises, presumably they could dry-assemble to check accuracy...

    Oak worktop in long length

Still confused! worktopexpress say "We can not join the worktops together by the hob or sink cut out. There would be very little support for the worktops and could potentially cause structural damage" Have not heard back from barncrest yet re long length. Can anyone else offer real world BTDT...
