Stewart try: http://www.oscarwindebank.co.uk/ its in Box - take the A4 from chippenham, through Corsham then down Box hill, the yard is on a very small indy estate on the right immediately before you go over the Box Tunnel Bridge. Used them a few times (i'm in Corsham) mainly their off cuts...

    First commission

OK, so its not a piece of fine cabinetry but nevertheless, it's the first thing thats been ordered by someone who is not family or friend. I took some of my planters to a boot sale a couple of weeks ago, sold a few and gave my details out to a few more, to make a short story even shorter I...

What do you do with your chippings/ sawdust?

I find the best thing to do is liberally cover myself, my shoes and the dog in sawdust and shavings, then run at full tilt into the house, followed by the dog, through the kitchen, down the hall, into the living room stopping at the phone which until 2 seconds previously was ringing its bits...

A little diversion thats now snowballing out of control

I'm pretty confident that the price is correctly pitched for my target market. I'm going to take a few down to a local sunday market/boot fayre in a couple of weeks. Its a big one - over 400 pitches and theres already a couple of people selling similar (but imho not of the same quality) One...

    mortice chisels

Afternoon all. I've got an Axi bench mortiser which came with a set of 3 tin coated chisels, they served me well until I tried a bit of oak yesterday, nicely bent corners (beyond redemption I'm afraid) on the largest of the chisels. I was probably asking a bit too much of what was a...

A little diversion thats now snowballing out of control

Walks no problem, the frame is made up from CLS which costs around £2.80 for a 2.4m length. The smaller of the 2 planters in the pic use 2 lengths The panelling i've started to make from relaimed wood from pallets - free the preservative is from wickes, £25 for a 5 litre can - I reckon I'm...

A little diversion thats now snowballing out of control

they'll get lined with weed barrier - or you can just stand a plastic pot in them. The gaps really aren't that big perhaps 1/16 beween each batten to allow for a fair degree of movement through the seasons. the battens are loose in a rebate cut under the top rail and on top of the lower rail...

bit of a "find" - now in need of a project

I feel like a scolded schoolboy now Rob   , the painted mdf was a means to an end and I can't promise that it won't rear it's ugly head again in the future, however.......I've been wanting to make a tentative move to the "fine" side for a long time and have built up quite a...

bit of a "find" - now in need of a project

Don't think its parana pine, it's very heavy and dense, I thought it was oak, think it still is but I am open to suggestions

bit of a "find" - now in need of a project

theres a house round the corner undergoing a renovation and extension build. Whilst driving past the other day I spotted the old staircase in the garden. I asked the chippie if it was destined for the tip, he said it was, so I asked if I could have it. He told me to fill my proverbial boots...

A little diversion thats now snowballing out of control

SWMBO wanted a couple of planters knocking up for the "the front", so i duly obliged and knocked up a couple. decided on going down the "decent" route and used no screws, its all M and T (with a bit of room for the inevitable "movement") and dowels. It was all soaked in preservative before...

Monster New Bedroom Build - Finished - At Last

Steve Beat you to it, the top is drilled with alternating 25mm - 75mm holes, its also been given a brush coat of an underseal type product (got it from a sports centre manager mate of mine - they use it in saunas) so hopefully no mildew problems will arise. the alternative was to paint my...

Monster New Bedroom Build - Finished - At Last

Aidan Up close the finish is just what I was after, not a high gloss and not matt either, don't really know how else to describe it. The Morrels paint was about £24 for a 5 litre can (this was after a trade discount given to me by the bloke in the Morrells shop without me asking for it - big...

Lockable castors for home-made machinery bases

i recently"mobilsied" all my machines. after a lot of shopping around i settled on these castors from axminster, they work very well (I went for the braked ones which brake the axial movement as well as the wheel) they're also cheaper than anything else i found and you get volume discount.

Monster New Bedroom Build - Finished - At Last

Managed to get some more mdf mangling completed, next step is to clean the shop from top to bottom, cover everything in plastic sheets and then break out the sprayer - something that I'm looking forward to and dreading at the same time. I think I made a mistake with the doors, cut the rebate...

    So Sorry...Table Saws...

Can't give an opinion from personal experience on any of the 3, however..........the charnwood looks to have the exact same sliding table as found on the much smaller axi TS200. As an owner of the TS200 I can safely say that the sliding table was a PITA. it was a puppy to set up and if you...
