    Nova DVR bed extension

Steve I guess the extension is he old type? Bought it from dodgy five years go when I bought the lathe, one of the last before the move to China and record's takeover. I guess that means it won't fit? Pete

Any wood supplier in Glasgow please ?

I would persevere with reid's, he has some really interesting wood, some lovely splted beech, burr elm and yew, and he is very reasonable. If you phone him he'll open up for you if he's in the area. I think he's worth supporting. Pete

    Nova/Record DVR

I've had my dvr xp fr four years, and i love it, but i have fitted three new speed sensors - a fiddly job but do-able. When they start to wear out they get very snsitive to dust and cold - once you have to start cleaning them with meths every session to make them work, it's time to rplace them...

    Oak bowl-for critique.

I think that's really well made, and very striking - for me the two rings are a bit heavy, leaving just the inner ring would show off that lovely edge better, or two thinner rings would maybe balance better, but that's just an opinion. Pete h

    Chuck Recess

As robert chapman says in his book,' a bpwl is only as good as its worst feature' - a recess isnt necessarily a bad thing, but you need to think about it in the context of the piece and design/finish itb suit. iMHO that is. Pete

    getting tools in Scotland

Hi Just Wood in Ayr is very good - the owner is really helpful, Burhouse is also good, though they haven't been stocking as many turning tools recently, and can be a bit pricey, but then its a tough business. Don't know about tools, but Reid timber...

    Dvr woes

All my warming tricks failed to work this weekend, so I fitted the new speed sensor board I bought last winter but never fitted (very fiddly) - works perfectly now. I hope this helps any other DVR owners/servants. pete

    Dvr woes

I'll experiment with different lengths of heating, but the heavy head casting will take a lot of heating after a night below freezing - maybe I'll extend the central heating.

    Dvr woes

So, I took the endplate off and set a fan heater to blow warm air up it's rear end for an hour or two before starting. Worked perfectly - so I'm thinking the ambient temperature is indeed the problem. I guess new Zealand must be warmer than perthshire. Hope this is a help to any other nova...

    Dvr woes

My nova dvr xp has started playing tricks again - refusing to start, displaying ' RPS state error' . The fix is to take the endplate off and clean the speed sensors with meths, which I've Done several times but I'm ow wondering if it's a temperature thing. Seems to come with the cold weather -...

    New Website.

It looks very good, nice and classy - constructively, I don't think masonary on the links page is the right spelling, and the bowls link doesn't work for me. The rest looks to me like a very professional site. Pete

    Nice Looking Wood on Ebay

Michael's a good guy, I've had some great pieces from him, and he will always add more stuff up to the maximum weight for the postage rate if you ask him. P

    Cheapskate pete

Apparently lidl are selling a motorised carving tool from this Monday - it won't be a proxxon, but it's only 19.99 - worthwhile for a wee play I think. Pete

    Bangles

I use 2 1/2 inches as the standard inside diameter, and it seems to be the average fit. I sell bigger ones to the us though! Pete

    Supernova pinions

If they had rounded off after two years I'd be really annoyed! I guess five years of 'compulsive amateur' use isn't that bad, on reflection. Pete
