My Jet AFS 500 had the same symptoms as described earlier in this topic chain. I replaced capacitor C2 with recommended one, as sold on Ebay, and the filter now works flawlessly. IMO it works much better than when it was brand new.
Many thanks to Jack for solving this for me.
Cheers Dave
Just a heads up,
While rooting around on the web looking for suppliers of abrasive compounds for lapping etc I came across this site - http://www.eternaltools.com
The site is aimed at clockmakers and the like and it sells small diamond drills, burrs, files, diamond lapping film, diamond hole...
Hi Dibs,
I’ve now had a look at the Dehn Lightning Protection guide (a pdf copy is a free download from their website).
In my view you are looking at a stack of costs to protect your property and because it is semi-detached you will have to persuade your neighbour to protect his half as well to...
Hi Dibs,
Hell and death - you've got two big lead roofed dormers on the back of your house - now I'm really envious.
I assume these dormers project out from the roofline, have inverted V roofs and the faces of the dormers are setback about 1 metre from the gutters.
There is a technique called...
The provision of lightning and surge protection is becoming more prevalent and arises from the European IEC regulations 61643 and 62305 ergo our Electrical Regs now recommend SPDs etc. but this is not yet mandatory (I think) in the UK, but may well be eventually!
In Germany and Austria they are...
Hi Dibs,
There’s no easy answer to this because it depends on many factors.
Do you think that there a heavy current switching transients in your local area? – i.e. nearby industrial plants turning lots of big motors on and off at all times during the day.
Are there nearby lightning ground...
Hi Knappers,
I suggest you look on the website at www.pavingexpert.com.
You will find everything you need to know, and then some, about patios, paths, driveways, imprinted concrete etc.
It is very good and I thoroughly recommend it.
Cheers

Hi LuptonM,
Forgive me if you already know this but just check to make sure your blade is installed in the plane the right way up. The blade bevel should be facing the frog in a No.4.
I've put the blade in the wrong way up before now and wondered what was wrong :)
Cheers
Dave
Sorry guys - but I don't rate Norm much anyway.
I think Alan Herd "Restoration Man" etc. is by far the best woodworker I've seen yet on the telly.
I shall now go and hunker down in my bunker.
Cheers
Dave
Hi BB,
I used the K.A. Stroud series of mathematical textbooks, these were;
'Engineering Mathematics' - in my view a good 1st and 2nd year degree general mathematics course book and I do recommend this one. I suggest get this one first and worry about the rest later. You may be able to have a...
Just a 'heads up',
In the Mid-Cheshire Buy & Sell (dated 03/04/10) free paper there are a couple of bits of kit some of you may be interested in.
NB I do not know the seller and I have no idea what the kit is like.
Advert text as follows;
Spindle Moulder - Startrite T30, floor standing with...
Hi Shultzy,
You may want to try your local monumental mason (memorial headstones and the like).
About 9 months ago I got a rectangular offcut of polished black granite 600x200 and 30 mm thick for a fiver in the bloke's hand.
When I got it home it checked out flat in all directions with my...
Hi all,
I use a old Rapier No.5 as, what I thought was called, a scrub plane.
As per AHoman comments - I really use it for taking boards down to reasonably close to finished thickness.
I tend to aim for the high bits first to get them down and then to get the board to some semblance of...
Hi TobyB
I've got this bandsaw.
The 4# brackets are attached to the bottom corners of the base. They are supposed to be used if you want to permanently bolt/fix the bandsaw to the floor.
Cheers
Dave
I'm sorry guys - I seem to have opened a can of worms here!
I didn't ask for investment advice; I was merely looking for an opinion on the outlook for the geographical investment sectors of Latin America and Indonesia.
All posters are dead right it is better to pay debt off first and invest in...
Hi Dibs
Thanks for the advice but I am aware of boiler room scams, share 'pumping' and the like; I was chairman of a shares investment club for a good few years until I moved to a different company.
All I am looking for is somebody else's point of view it does not mean I will necessarily accept...
Hi to Chris Clark,
An interesting post and thanks for the topic.
I would be interested to hear your views on the investment outlook for the Latin American and Indonesian sectors for the coming 12 months or so.
For info - my investment portfolio lies more towards OEICs, ITs and the like rather...
UPDATE AND RESOLUTION;
The advice given lubrication and the adjustment screws caused me to look even closer at the errant windows.
I gave a window a couple of drops of 3in1 on each of the hinge pivots - this didn't help.
So I then looked for the adjustment screws. What I discovered is that at...
Hi Bob,
I'm not sure which way you are going to go with this but I can understand why you are thinking of using 2 off 6 mm cables in parallel - they are easier to handle and route through floor joists etc.
But a word of warning - if one of the phase or neutral conductors becomes broken or...
