Blade adaptors for 10 inch Wadkin AGS 10?

can't believe it's been three months since discussing the AGS restoration - specifically the replacement of the starter. Thought now its actually running , I'd add an update as it might be useful to someone bitten by the Walking AGS bug. Problem I had was I needed some sort of DOL Starter but...

Withdrawn Record C26 Genius (SCM Minimax C26G) single-phase Universal machine for sale - £1800 or near offer

ok - so perhaps £2100 is a little optimistic - dropping it to £1800...

Withdrawn Record C26 Genius (SCM Minimax C26G) single-phase Universal machine for sale - £1800 or near offer

Hi All, Decided to sell my Record 4-in-1 woodworking machine. Its about 15 years old and quite well used but in pretty good condition. Record sold these, (barely) branded as a Record machine, but made by SCM in Italy as part of its minimax range. They still make it and you can see details on...

    Wanted Strimmer

I have a petrol stilh and a battery stilh which I bought as the wife didn’t want to bother with trying to start the petrol. Yesterday wanted to use the petrol to strim the banked verge outside my house but of course it wouldn’t start and needs a strip down. Huge weeds and long grass - about 50...

Blade adaptors for 10 inch Wadkin AGS 10?

Thanks for the warning - very sensible and sorry if I made myself look like an silly person :) - I'm ok with electrical planning and installation and importantly know how to test (did my Part-P before re-wiring my old cottage sometime back -its also been independently inspected so don't fret..) I have...

Blade adaptors for 10 inch Wadkin AGS 10?

I like the idea of that - specifically using 24v meaning i could (safely) retain the existing switches - probably with a bit butchery of the existing starter, whereas using them at 240v for latching a contractor might be a bit suspect. If I get a contactor with 24v coil, are there specific...

Blade adaptors for 10 inch Wadkin AGS 10?

Hi everyone - AGS 10 restoration is going very well - actually much better than I expected with my ham-fisted engineering and painting skills. I didn't do a full restoration blog as there are several of those - much better than I'd be able to do, but here’s the traditional before/after photos...

    Wadkin AGS10 bush replacement

Fair points - having gone over a few parts today, it doesn’t look too bad - looks like a very fine ‘sand’ was used and mating surfaces like ones on the main tilting assembly seem to have come back up with only the lightest of sanding. I’ll blast it with air and tentatively try a few bolts. It’s...

    Wadkin AGS10 bush replacement

nope - he did not. I guess my fault for assuming he would take proper care 😖 I'll try blasting them with the airline and after painting runs a tap through them I guess.

    Wadkin AGS10 bush replacement

Hi everyone, So after getting the motor sorted for my AGS10 (single phase TEC, 1.5KW) I stripped the machine and got the spindle machined true with a new nut for the pulley end, and then stripped the machine down for sand blasting. I guess in my head I didn’t really worry about the bronze...

Motor choice for Wadkin AGS10 restoration

ha - would have been great to try the VFD thing - but I now got and fitted a single phase, stripped it down, welded the old holes and getting it all sand blasted! Would have looked nice and 'period' though..

Motor choice for Wadkin AGS10 restoration

cheers! - must admit I was chuffed to tiny bits when I got it. During lockdown I built one of Matthias’s belts sanders (the woodgears one) for something to do and had to find a motor. It was a real balance of how much is it / where is it/ how much will it cost to get it. Took ages to find one at...

Motor choice for Wadkin AGS10 restoration

Thanks to everyone for the advice - having purchased a single phase 2hp motor, thought it might be of interest to discuss how I fitted/tested it on the AGS 10. I’m just trying to fit it so that i can be sure that everything is ok and that it will work before I strip the machine and replace...

Motor choice for Wadkin AGS10 restoration

Interesting discussion :-) Motor has arrived this afternoon. It is metric which does mean I need to drill new holes in the motor plate, but as it seems to have quite a few holes in it already I’ll probably weld those up and drill new. You are correct it’s a metric shaft so will need to machine...

Motor choice for Wadkin AGS10 restoration

@Spectric - wasn't a big deep thought - just from the discussion on VFD for my table saw (the original question) It sounded like using a VFD and 3phase motor on my pillar drill would avoid me changing speeds via pulleys - something I do find I need to do quite often. Was only some idle musings...

Motor choice for Wadkin AGS10 restoration

Makes sense - Only speculation on my part at this stage - but if I still need to adjust the pulleys it really wouldn't be worth the added expense of a 3p motor and VFD to vary the speed. More research required on that one I think. If you buy a new pillar drill with variable speed, how do they...

Motor choice for Wadkin AGS10 restoration

@Goldfinger234 - cheers for that, the inrush current is one thing (along with breaking) that I was thinking about. However, For the moment I've ordered a 2hp single phase - its advertised as a new motor (surplus to requirements) and got it for 50 quid, so its good enough to test the saw with...
