Interesting discussion :-) Motor has arrived this afternoon. It is metric which does mean I need to drill new holes in the motor plate, but as it seems to have quite a few holes in it already I’ll probably weld those up and drill new. You are correct it’s a metric shaft so will need to machine...

@Spectric - wasn't a big deep thought - just from the discussion on VFD for my table saw (the original question) It sounded like using a VFD and 3phase motor on my pillar drill would avoid me changing speeds via pulleys - something I do find I need to do quite often. Was only some idle musings...
