    Doorway issue - any alternative?

I'd do the narrower door option like rogx says. As long as you can get whatever furniture in after! Unless you've chosen a solid door with a wide stile, many I've hung only have a lock block and that may cause a problem with a longer back set. And 2" is a big backset. Dont worry sometimes we get...

    Fitting integrated washing machine?

πŸ˜‚ It means, don't put your favourite jumper in it at that speed, it'll come out with longer sleeves than a straight jacket and shaped to fit a rock! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Just as another opinion for the machine, a gap above washer or dishwasher is good to dispel humid/hot air, they often come with a reflective...

How can I put a bullnose on the edge of this oak tread?

You're not wrong Adam, but it's putting it down on the unseen floorboard nail that scratches the sole, (seen that happen,) the unnoticed wet patch that starts rusting the sole after the plane is put away. I'm all for prevention over cure.😁

How can I put a bullnose on the edge of this oak tread?

Me too, its good practice. But what you don't see in these other workshops is the piece of blade/sole protector e.g. Bit of carpet tile, under where the planes are set down. I still set them on side, I'm often on site where there's no carpet tiles! πŸ˜‚ And if you're thinking I should take a piece...

    Tack cloths/rags?

They are great but what are tack cloths impregnated with? I started using them on my last job but concerned they may have contaminated the surface as the top coat (high gloss solvent based,) had thousands of tiny bubbles when I laid it on.

Chisel gets dull whilst working up through the grits

I bought Smurf Poo, not convinced it's any better than my other honing pastes but certainly makes me smile every time I use the blue goo!

Chisel gets dull whilst working up through the grits

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Well it was just before children came along! 🀣🀣🀣 Out lad was 26 yesterday so now it really would be about the belt leather! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Oohh are we allowed to have banter & jokes like this?! πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

Chisel gets dull whilst working up through the grits

Get one of your old wide leather belts, chop out the middle piece to use, attach it, unfinished side out, around a piece of 2x1, job done. Made mine from my hubby's belt back in college and still using it to this day. The sharper the tool the easier and safer to use. As for sharpening, I was the...

Stud opening size for fire doors and lining

I was informed a couple of years back that all new door linings now have to be fire rated too. Although the dimension thickness I've seen stocked are still 32mm. I was wondering about the threshold gap and swing, if the floor is out of kilter & the door with 4mm under gap then scrapes floor...

Screwfix, what an utter pain in the proverbial

I feel your frustration on this. Don't know what area you are but if you have a screwfix there's normally a Toolstation within spitting distance, (they're brothers and keep opposing stock.) They keep series 91in 18,22,30mm staples but no brads. I too had issues with what is equivalent brads and...

Am I the only person depressed by the number of comments with gender or racial stereotypes in them?

Yes, let's pour Detol on the world. Infact let's ban harmless humour & banter altogether.

    Edwardian moldings repro sources?

If this has already been suggested I apologise, (not had chance to read all replies yet,) but maybe find decent ogee & rework the profile?

    Wood identification

Can I just add that the pink hue in beech is created from the steaming process rather than natural colouring and therefore the off white/grey of the log is its natural colour.

    Wood identification

Very pithy like hazle but I want to say the bark looks like silver birch maybe. Think Phil said Birch too.
