Solution for rats in my garage

Can’t see how he could be fake after all the comments he’s made? Something I found out the other day which I didn’t know was that mice - and probably rats, can’t stand trying to bite wire wool, I don’t think I would either lol. So the idea is to block up any gaps and holes with it. Ian Ps any...

    Bevel slat shutters

Thanks Jonny, I have some to make soon but hadn’t started to think how! Timber, Iroko? And yes I know they’re nothing like each other but it reminded me of Cedar as well. Not easy to describe what you’ve done sometimes I know but I couldn’t follow the paragraph ending in "who knew". After...

    Business to business dealings

I would consider you to be running a business, you put yourself up there - out there to sell your services, definitely a business. Ian

    Strange happening

Fairly sure that it wasn’t a bird of any type it was as described flying at an incredibly high speed for something small, I described it as being 2-300 mph. So fast we barely saw it as it flashed across in front of us.

    Removing a wash hand basin

I just stash it in the attic where it’s likely to be found.

Where to buy 8 x 3 inch wood 5.4 meters in length

Never used them even though they are quite close to me, but what they sell is in the name lol. Just seen you’re in Bristol, that’s not so handy! http://www.longlengths.co.uk/

    Strange happening

Well wow, that thing can really shift, and I got the impression that he was just following the car but could have beaten it with practice and knowing the course. So it could have been a drone, but what was it doing in the middle of the Lincolnshire countryside? In a War of the future as we have...

    Strange happening

Well I wouldn’t have thought a drone, wrong sort of shape? And don’t think can they go that fast? Definitely weird though.

    Strange happening

Pam and I were driving down a quiet country road recently, ( Nth Lincs) doing about 40 - 50 mph when an object flashed across about 20 yds in front of us from left to right at about car roof height it was going incredibly fast - much faster than a Formula 1 car passing in front of you. I...

    The bucket list

Yes I agree, very well written indeed, you obviously are a deeper thinker and more determined than me, no list, but a hankering to see more than I have to date, I think we are mostly held back by life and it’s challenges, but then aren’t these a result of bad planning a lack of ambition and...

    Dry rods

Sorry can’t help with dry rods but I read an article recently that agreed with what @af99 said, rising damp is not what causes damp problems, nearly always penetrating - rain, or condensation. I meant to do an experiment that it suggested, put a column of bricks in a tray of water for a long...

    Removing a wash hand basin

You may find there’s rom to use a hacksaw blade to slice through the "glue" Jacob, it will also show you where any screws are. Are you concerned about damaging the tiles? EDIT, I have never understood why more people don’t stash away the unused bits and pieces like tiles from work in their...

    Stain woes

I think the best way to salvage that would be to use a scraper or drag a sharp chisel from the joint along the wood to remove all evidence of sanding, then re stain. Ian

    Building Bridges

My understanding is that both France and Germany set out and grew forests as an agricultural crop, well maintained to grow tall clean trees (few knots) and certainly in my experience it has worked, but if you want a piece of Oak with character and interesting grain it tends to come from the uk...

    Router plane on sapele

Yes, it’s well known for its interlocking grain, another way to do that is to put it over a tablesaw repeatedly to remove all the waste, obviously this also takes out the ends which you would then have to make new bits for and glue in.

    Planer thicknesses for garage

Welcome, Sedgwick are a very solid make, I have one of their saws and find it to be brill, as a beginner you may find setting up the blades not as easy as one with Tersa blades, but I don’t think that should stop you. Value wise, I don’t know tbh, but it’s a lot of machine for that money. Good...

Hi, new member from Yorkshire here!

I saw your desk, so yes you’re very welcome. Jacob baiting is a bit of a pastime on here but in reality he knows a great deal nearly all of which I agree with, I even agree about sharpening. Whoops best not to use that word - it doesn’t always end happily! Ian

Lidl's quibble quibble 3 year tool guarantee

Maybe, but it’s not what I would have put as my very first post. He won’t want to hear what I said when I read it.
