@XTiffy and @Sideways thanks for the response. Might use a mixture of the pic and a nicer box with contrasting wood and leather lined cutouts. I'll go back with thse suggestions and see what thw response is

It does help. I won't be going near the original, I'm making a replacment. Leatherette sounds like it might be the best option 👍

    Vintage drawing set. . .

@J-G thanks for the info, I'll see what I can find regardj g 20,50 or 100% silk velvet. Flocking looks tricly and ot the sort of thing they would have used orginally, hence the velvet. Anyone have any idea what the outside of the case is covered in? Cheers @toolsntat I'll havs a look.

@The_Yellow_Ardvark just like the top picture. The aim is to replace a very tired one, which can then be passed on. so no pressure for me!

    Vintage drawing set. . .

Looking at the box, it would seem that the box is not anything special. Made of out two pieces, which are routed out. Top side routed and lined with fabric. Bottom routed out and block of wood inserted, cut to accommodate the compass, pens etc. Then flocked??? Outside covered with dodgy...

Thanks for the suggestion, but they want to replicate the above style for someone who is retiring. Hence the new box. Looks like I may need to get into flocking then.

    Vintage drawing set. . .

Hello, I haven't posted for a long while, happy fettling with m&t joints and dodgy dovetails. However a friend knowing I am more skilled than any other friends, ask if I could make a pen box type case for them to replace an old drawing set. here is an example of the type of thing they have...

Another option is makerspaces, but they tend to not be so focused on woodwork.

    Raising a bed

Having a quick look around I'm going to copy this sort of thing: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/stora-loft-bed-frame-white-stain-70242086/ End opposite the ladder will have a built in desk. Going to use nut inserts to bolt it all together with dovetail type joints. 50x50 100x100 for the legs...

    Raising a bed

Thanks for the replies, I'll just sort new legs out with bracing etc. As any other option just seems more trouble than it's worth.

    Raising a bed

Hello, I'm looking to raise a bed from floor level to just under 2m high. The bed posts are 50x50 at present, so my idea was to just get some 50x50 of suitable length to raise the height of the bed. I'll also be putting in some bars to stop the occupant rolling out of the bed in the...

The shame of a tidy workshop

Small work space dictates that I need to be tidy and organised. As it's a hobby I'd rather be able to just get started on the job than spend an age tidying. A tool chest has helped me organise things and keep everthing neat and tidy. Very much a clean desk clean mind type of person. Having...

    Andre Roubo’s Try Square

I've thrown a square together with off cuts. Came out as accurate as my reference metal one so my prep was good. One cock up was that the blade was narrower than my smallest chisel. So. It looks a bit sloppy as I had to saw and sand the bridle joint. So I'll do another one but matched to the...

    Andre Roubo’s Try Square

Another possible reason my be to disyinguish from pieces of scrap in the workshop. Fair point about the grain.

    Andre Roubo’s Try Square

A friend asked me if I have made one and would be avle to make one for them. I'd not heard of them so did some web searching finding not much info other than the web pate on popular qood working and Chris S. I read somewhere that the ogee on the blade denotes which edge is true. Which I...
