    So my MDF was delivered...

200 notes!! Is it covered in gold leaf?

    So my MDF was delivered...

It did have a green mark on the edge as you say but I wasn't convinced by it.

    So my MDF was delivered...

Would be good if there was a quick test. Or they just keep it bloody green! 😁

    So my MDF was delivered...

Thanks, I read that same page, it says the 8x4s are green. My sheets were 8x4 and brown with no resin feel to the edges... Having now spoken to the yard manager, he questioned the supplier when the batch arrived and was assured its mrmdf. But he's not 100% certain so I'm definitely not. From...

    So my MDF was delivered...

I ordered some 12 and some 18mm, all MRMDF. The 12 had a green core and you could feel the resin. The 18 was all brown so I questioned the delivery guy. He said it was moisture resistant but I wasn't having it. I felt the edges and it was a fluffy feeling, not the stiffer resin feeling. So...

    Refinishing old decking

Yeah I cleaned and jetwashed it but the decking was about 8 years old by this time. Obviously I didn't prep it well enough for the paint - in any case I wouldn't paint decking again, I like the bare treated look. So far I've sanded it all, sprayed with mould/algae remover then jetwashed. I've...

    Refinishing old decking

The other side is grooved but they are thin and messed with my eyes! I can't see any particular problem with flat smooth boards apart from slippage.. but you can easily slip on the grooved side - well my wife can 😆

    Refinishing old decking

    Refinishing old decking

Thanks all. It seems to me there's a possible market here for a specific power tool for this... Once I've finished sanding the top I'm going to try a paint stripper gel down the grooves and jet wash. We will see.

    Refinishing old decking

Hi, I painted my deck with "non-slip" paint about 3 years ago. Mistake, I'll put it down to experience. Let's just say it should be called "non-stick" paint because it does not stay put. So, I'm sanding said paint off on this pleasant Sunday in preparation for oiling it. My questions are can...

    Coach Screw v Coach Bolt

Thanks fellas, that's 2-1 to the bolts. I was leaning a little that way I have to say because of the strength and ability to change parts out if and when. Hmm...

    Coach Screw v Coach Bolt

I'm building the frame for my first workbench from 2x4's and I wanted to ask what's best, coach bolts (nice clean finish but thread and nut and washer sticking out on the inside) or coach screws (heads sunk in and nothing protruding on t'other side). Or C.. Doesnt matter, equally strong. Ta...

A slice of an Oak tree

Out of interest, are there any species that don't split and the 'rounds' can be used?

MDF Workbench top - best finish?

Thanks a lot fellas. Loads of very useful info. I'll start the build in a couple of weeks in my new workshop. My own workbench, can't wait. My workshop is 2.7 x 3m internally. I'm thinking of having my work bench across a shorter wall - so 800 x 2700mm with my Sliding Mitre Saw in the middle...

Thanks fellas. Chris - what do you use to support your 18mm mdf sheet? Ply, solid battens?
