    Lathe for hobby use

Stripped, cleaned, painted, checked for wear and sold as spares then on the bay of E, or kept for spares then I guess. Besides, with the thread cutting ability restored I'm sure I can make new nuts for the lead screw and cross slides....

    Lathe for hobby use

Well deary me, I may be the proud owner of exactly 1.75 (yes, one and three quarters!) M type lathes. I bought a second spares or repair job from eBay, stupidly tho instead of taking a punt I contacted the seller and asked if there was any change wheels with it, the crafty sod realized that it...

    Lathe for hobby use

Indeed I am the lucky buyer. It seems to my untrained eyes to actually be in really good condition, as stated there is a ton of tooling, chucks ( 3 and 4 jaw, drill etc.) a fixed stay, counter shaft assembly. The bed seems solid, the only concern I have is a little backlash in the cross feed...

    Lathe for hobby use

Brilliant, thanks Keith. Is there any way of updating the spindle bearings to a more modern type do you know?

    Lathe for hobby use

Hello, I'm after some advice please on a lathe, I was looking for a wood lathe, however most pieces I'm planning on can be made in resin, plus I can turn bespoke metal parts for cars and motorbikes (another passion of mine) The chap in this ad...

Help required by a kind soul

Sadly the details just aren't there. It has some Ashley iles (sic) chisels, the head swivels and it has a bowl turning attachment to use with the swivel. I think I'll pass, there does seem to be a lot of tut out there being over charged for at the moment

It is that one, yes. I did think it was a little rich, so wanted an idea of the sort of ball park figure I should be looking at!

Hi all, If there's anyone here that knows lathes and is familiar with a selling site, similar to "sticky branch" (sorry for the terrible pun, not sure if I'll get in trouble for mentioning said site) there's an axminster lathe available in Bristol with some tools for £450. I'd like to know if...

Hi Simon, That is a really generous offer, and as long as you are sure I will definitely take you up on it if I may. I'm not sure on availability yet due to a rubbish memory and upcoming nuptials, however I know I will have some free time to come. Overwhelmed.

Alas I am one of Cameron's "generation rent" - I have a garage (with no power but easily accessible with an extension) and I really can't see me needing more than 24" between centres, so the CL3/4 is not for me - I have looked at a Record DML305 and it seems to get good reviews and even the...

Thanks for the lovely welcome! I suppose I'm not after a small fortune but would like to start a commercial concern - even if it's on a small scale and pays for itself/other hobbies! I also want to look into resin turning too as my skills progress. I have been looking at lathes too - I want...

If you saw what went on in civil aviation most would never fly again!

Aldi again. Gotta love this ad.

Strikethroughs or lathe? [WINKING FACE] Strikethroughs are great for really seating a screwdriver in a painted/fouled slot, or even making a flat slot that's badly rusted deeper to get more purchase, without the handle shattering into one's face - not that I'm talking from experience or...

I have the book ordered already, and I've found Avon and Bristol wood turners association! The courses look good, although difficult as I'm full time, my first outlay I'm looking at is some formal (or informal) training!

Hello all, New boy here, my total woodworking experience is about zero, followed by a couple of hours messing around on my mates dad's lathe with some cherry I think about 23 years ago. I was quite proud of the bowl I made (about the size of a tobacco pipe bowl!) I'm here to learn turning...

Aldi again. Gotta love this ad.

Hahaha! Thanks, I was hiding in the loo at work and it popped up on tapatalk, I felt the need to comment. I'm here actually to learn more about turning, and even buy my first lathe [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH]

Aldi again. Gotta love this ad.

Absolutely nothing, it has a multitude of uses, few drawbacks and is more often seen as useful in more "mechanical" trades than wood craft I guess. I'm an airframe engineer and these types of screwdriver are preferred by almost all.
