    Help designing/integrating dust separation

Thanks for the advice, I've watched a few vids on youtube and it seems that a Thien baffle is the most viable option. Drawing up plans today.

    Help designing/integrating dust separation

It's 100mm pipe. Wouldn't even a sealed bucket with 2 holes in it be better than nothing?? I don't mean to be contrary, I'm just hoping for a solution which doesn't involve completely changing the setup, as I said it's really tidy and convenient, until the filter clogs up. It's even wired up to...

    Help designing/integrating dust separation

I appreciate that cyclones still need to be emptied, the issue is indeed with the filter getting clogged, I should have made that clearer. Looking at it now, I think I may be able to squeeze something in behind the ducting. The height is not optimal but rebuilding the whole unit is not really an...

    Help designing/integrating dust separation

Hi all, Attached is a picture of my island extraction setup. It's a 2kw Camvac attached to a ducted system servicing my table saw, router table and an extra hose for power tools etc. It's a convenient setup, but with the major flaw that the filters clog up really quickly; I suspect this is...

Recommend a small random orbital sander

Thanks all, I ended up ordering the Makita for £80 from Lawton HIS, added a load of discs to take it over £100 for free shipping. Cheers

Recommend a small random orbital sander

Thank you all for the suggestions. David I know that often cheaper tools are a false economy, but as in this case I don't need great versatility or heavy duty performance I'm inclined to see if the basic models are up to task. If not there is always the option of returning within a reasonable...

    Drum Sander Loading Suppliers

I have just come across a seller on the bay selling 'Prodec Advance Proflex' cloth-backed rolls, all grits 40-240, 115mm x 5M for £8.11 each, and a further 10% off if you order 3 or more. As this works out at less than 1/3 of the Axminster price I thought it worth a punt.

Recommend a small random orbital sander

Hi all, I'm looking for a new RO sander for electric guitars. It doesn't need to be particularly heavy duty as I won't generally be removing a lot of material, but needs to leave an excellent finish. The Festool RO90 looks nice but I can't justify £400 on a sander, and I already have a delta...

Deft Table Saw arbor size, and dado sets

Quite! Or indeed, to import from the US myself, which it appears is all that the Amazon seller is doing anyway. The other factor is the 8 sheets of ply sitting in my workshop waiting to be turned into cabinets, which I do not want to still be there in 2017!

Deft Table Saw arbor size, and dado sets

Maybe easier, but certainly not cheaper. I can only find the Freud set on Amazon for £109.99, plus a whopping £51.99 postage! Double the cost of the Woodford set. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Freud-8in-Stac ... B0000223O9 Rutlands do a set for a mere £400: http://www.rutlands.co.uk/sp+woodworkin...

Deft Table Saw arbor size, and dado sets

Update: I ended up ordering a load of bushes from Axminster, which have now arrived. I tried fitting them to my blades, to find that all but one of them pushed straight through with very little resistance! I measured the bushes with digital callipers, and they come up at a consistent 29.97- not...

Deft Table Saw arbor size, and dado sets

I don't think the long bush solution is a goer Mike, as it wouldn't allow the width of the stack to be adjusted. If the stack ends up narrower than the bush is long then the nut won't tighten, and if it's wider then a blade might slip. I'll probably just get a whole bunch of standard bushes...

Deft Table Saw arbor size, and dado sets

Hi all, I recently picked up a Deft on eBay after sending back the disappointing iTech 01332. I was interested in the new Harvey from Woodford Tooling, but as Roy informed me that the next consignment is all sold out, I went for the second hand Deft, under the impression that it is essentially...

    Combined spindle & belt sanders

I've seen that video too, which did put me off a bit. To be honest given the looks and the price, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a bit shonky, but if it does the job then it's a bargain. It would also be handy to be able to tuck it away when not in use, whereas the Excalibur is floor standing...

    Combined spindle & belt sanders

I'd been waiting for the Rutlands oscillating belt & bobbin sander to come back into stock: http://www.rutlands.co.uk/sp+woodworkin ... nds+dk7010 However now it seems that they've raised the price so I can get the identical Sealey version elsewhere for the same price + free shipping. There...

    Table Saw Flatness Tolerance

I've taken off the fence rails and extension tables, and loosened the table mounting bolts, now it will sit in my workshop until Monday morning when I'll check if it has moved at all. I'm not expecting much to happen but it's relatively little effort; and who knows how long it's been sat fully...

    Table Saw Flatness Tolerance

I can see what you're getting at; could definitely be worth a shot letting it do its thing without restraint. Certainly won't do any harm anyway, before getting drastic with the sandpaper. Also handy that it's Friday so I can leave it all weekend...

    Table Saw Flatness Tolerance

I bet it is! And of course, once I've ground down the high spots with coarse abrasive, I'd need to refinish the whole top to a consistent grade. I'd expect a hard day's work, with plenty of swearing thrown in. On the plus side, I could get rid of all the machining marks and end up with a lovely...

    Table Saw Flatness Tolerance

These comments broadly confirm my thoughts. Most likely I'll set it up as well as I can as-is and get some proper use out of it to see if any genuine problems emerge, or indeed if the step continues to bother me. If so I'll have a go at sanding the whole top with a good flat plate. Cheers
