    Lacquer over painted finish?

I have just put together the furniture for our nursery, which has a white painted finish. Whilst assembling the furniture I noticed that the finish seems to scratch and mark fairly easily and have had to have a few parts replaced due to transit damage already. If we didn't have such an awkward...

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll go down the home-made MDF jig route and keep the £40 towards a new toy :) Cheers, Steve

    Hinge routing jigs

Does anyone have any recommendations for a hinge routing jig please? I have to fit 6 new doors to my house soon and would like to rout the doors and frames for the hinges to speed things up a little. I don't want to spend too much as after I've done these doors I don't think the jig will get...

Building regs & door closers (& insurance!)

These look like a good alternative but I bet they're expensive! They allow the door to function normally until there is an electronic signal from one of the mains smoke alarms, at which point they become a door closer. Oh, they only seem to be available in plastic coated coloured finishes! No...

Building regs & door closers (& insurance!)

My planning application was 21/03/07 so I just fall inside the old regulations :x I've had a look through the site listed in the Planning permission information post and found section 0.11 of this document to be of interest. Namely the paragraph that says: 'Householders should also be made...

    Kitchen Doors

Following from what scrit said I would second Howdens rigid carcass'. I have used them in my kitchen and utility and you have all the hassle of assembly taken away. They will sell them individually (ie. without doors, etc.) but you will need someone with a trade account to get them for you. Steve

Building regs & door closers (& insurance!)

Thanks for the relies guys. Paul, you have a very good point regarding air circulation. Having not had any warm weather it is not something I had so far realised. Dibs, if you could dig out that info on the latest BR that would be very much appreciated. Cheers Steve

Building regs & door closers (& insurance!)

I posted a while back about have a loft conversion done, well finally it's finished! :D As my house is now three storey, building regs require all doors on the escape route to have self closers on in case of a fire. The builders have fitted white plastic coated arm-type door closers that look...

Help needed with bifold door mechanism

Thanks for all the replys guys. Andy, looking on the Hafele website at the item you have mentioned I think I can make something at work that will do the job and, if necessary, take some of the weight (although if I make some doors from 20mm timber I don't think that would be an issue). I'll...

Help needed with bifold door mechanism

I don't quite follow  I thought the top guide track was to guide the end of the second door (left-hand in this case) as the centre folds in? Cheers Steve

Help needed with bifold door mechanism

Thanks for the reply Paul. The reason I'd like to go for bifold doors is so that the don't open into the room as this makes it a tight squeeze to get in there. I can't hang any doors from the left as when they open they would foul on the slope of the roof. What if I used a bottom runner and...

Help needed with bifold door mechanism

I would like to fit a bifold door to the WC in my loft conversion. The only problem is that the door needs to be cut to suit the pitch of the roof. The bifold door mechanisms that I have seen have a pin that fixes into the top of the 2nd door leaf and runs in a track fitted to the top of the...

    Non-yellowing finish for ash?

Thanks Andy, Have you used this method with oil-based finish or water-based? If I bleach the wood will it remain light in colour or still yellow over time?
