    First attempt at an egg

I'm new to turning, so I'm pretty pleased with my first attempt at an egg. Wood is a mystery pine bed post that was abandoned in the alley by a neighbour. I will freely admit to doing plenty of sanding.

    Marking gauge (wheel variety)

Does the Veritas dual wheel version solve this issue? You have two wheels with bevels on opposite sides which could be set to the same depth, allowing you to choose which side of the line you want to have the clean cut.

    Making your own plywood...

I've seen a video of Tom Fidgen making plywood. https://youtu.be/8yA2cwHLQQk It looks extremely laborious. Even more so if you watch the previous video in the series, where he resaws the layers for the ply by hand with a frame saw.

    Camellia oil

I hope not. I've had a small cloth soaked in camellia oil for my razor in the bathroom cabinet for several months now. As far as I know, it's just the drying oils you have to worry about, as it's the oxidation/drying that generates heat, but if anyone has knowledge to the contrary (Or can...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

My wife was looking over my shoulder. Now I have to add an egg cupboard to the list of projects.

    Fixing/aligning bandsaw

I had a similar issue with the Aldi hobby bandsaw. (Blade running at the front of one wheel, to back of the other). After watching a few videos on bandsaw tuning, and trying the ideas that are workable on such a basic saw, it turned out the wheels were quite a way off being co-planar. It's...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Made a shelf for the kitchen. All hand tools, starting from rough sawn. I still need to make some little covers for the screw holes in the brackets.

    Oil stone refurb

I've used the dishwasher tab method successfully a few times. Most recently, I bought a box of old slipstones which were a uniformly manky dark grey. They came up quite nicely.

    Infill Planes

Even Norris had the blade bedded on steel in the No 50 at least. Its been complicated for a long time. http://www.norrisplanes.com/norris-numb ... ing-plane/

sticking expanded polypropylene / EPS down to plywood

If you want speed, just use some decent double sided tape. If you have some aready, gorilla glue will work well (the foaming kind) but it will take a while to cure.

Cleaning up an old woodie as a user. Super hard iron?

Thanks for the replies folks. I'll try a fresh belt to get the job finished, and will keep my eyes open for a nice wooden jack. I can always come back to the smoother once I've developed a better touch for setting a wooden plane on something a bit more forgiving. Sent from my SM-G920F using...

Cleaning up an old woodie as a user. Super hard iron?

I bought a nice old Varvill coffin smoother a year or so ago, and have just got around to cleaning it up and trying to put it back into a useable condition. It's my first wooden bench plane, and I'm struggling a bit with the iron. Not sure if it's original to the plane, but the iron is by Ward...
