I had a scroll, water cut, made from 6 mm thick stainless steel plate - about 8 inch diameter. I was quoted about 250 pounds to have this cut on CNC mill. but opted for water cut at about 50 pounds !
The edge finish was not as smooth as milling, but works very well
If you are thinking Dewalt, factor in the cost of best quality ear muffs.
They are VERY noisy, so much so that I got rid of mine.
A Dewalt will not enhance your relationships with your neighbours !
I had several tools stolen and these were covered by my household contents insurance.
I did have serial numbers on the major items and the insurance paid up with no questions.
The police were notified and were more than interested when I discovered a knife that was dropped at the scene.

mixing cetol with a urethane is probably not a good move. Cetol is a flexible coating whereas polyurethanes are not - so, whilst they may appear compatible, it is likely there will be some peeling after a year or so exposed to the weather.
Sikkens also stressed the importance of allowing the...
Am currently restoring several doors and windows, all of which require stripping back to bare wood.
I have opted to use solvent based finishing rather than water based because solvent based products survive better in the harsh Aussie conditions.
Originally, these doors used a Sikkens HLSe base...
Double extension is the way to go.
Have just built a stand for the coffee machine with a drawer for all the "bits"
The question for me was whether to go side or bottom mount. Decided on bottom mount because it was easier to get the alignments right.
I would start at the open end and keep the speed of the tool high and take MANY shallow cuts.
I assume your bar is steel but if you take very shallow cuts with a SLOW feed, your tool should survive. I have cut 3 mm slots into stainless steel bar this way without coolant, with no problems.
Spark arrestor is located in the exhaust. Usually it's screwed into the muffler with the mesh pointing up stream. Because of the tighter constraints of spark emissions, the mesh is quite fine and blocks quite easily.
We run a couple of Stihl trimmers and never found a problem with the carbys
The usual problem is either a dirty air filter or most likely, a blocked spark arrestor.
I would check these out before spending money on a new carb.
If the spark arrestor is even partially blocked, it reduces the...
Agree, by the time you buy the components, you would be better off buying a second hand lathe.
The motor is probably the cheapest component.
Also, using the motor you have may not be the best way to go, better off with an induction motor 1440 rpm.
I had to replace a worn rope which held the weight.
I decided to lower the machine to the horizontal position and fit a wire rope.
Warning - the top end of these machines is MUCH heavier then you might expect.
I thought I could do this on my own. Wrong. I was unable to hold the weight and it...
When drilling stainless steel, I usually drill a pilot hole of around 3 - 4 mm the next size would be around 6 - 8 mm. I do this at a low speed of about 3 - 500 rpm but with quite a bit of pressure. Sharp drills are a must - generally I don't find it necessary to use cobalt drills.
I also turn...
I use the same drill press for both metal and wood - no problems, just clean up between jobs.
Also, when drilling stainless steel, I don't find it necessary to use coolant if you keep your speeds low
I do not have direct experience of the bzl , but it looks similar mounting to my RS6
First step is to drop the drive belt from the motor pulley.
Second step is to electrically disconnect the wires from the motor terminal box ( mark the connections for later re-connection ) Ensure the lathe is...
There are many mills you could consider - especially as you are in UK
It all depends on your budget.
I ended up selling my Bridgeport ( due to space constraints ) and was lucky to find a mint condition Schaublin 13 - with loads of extras. It's the best small mill I have ever used. Not cheap, but...
