...and Robs second project is... another table...!

So I was looking for my next task, and my wife suggested it. She's just bought a bloody great industrial knitting machine for her business and it needed a 3 phase power converter. This converter is very heavy and needs to be kept off the ground so dust and rubbish don't get sucked in. Cue new...

    Nearly finishing my first table..

I agree! also, as it was made in the garage, the wood has shrunk a bit since bringing it inside and there is a very cool crack effect happening between the planks now. It really looks good. ...and drawers are on the menu too...

    Nearly finishing my first table..

I'm realising that I may need to get one - which is the best make to get?

    Nearly finishing my first table..

Well, Here it is in its painted glory... Of course, now I've painted it, my wife says its not smooth enough - so I've got to go through the sanding rigmarole again... I"m open to suggestions on the best way to sand tables! I bet most people will say 'by hand'..sigh.

    Nearly finishing my first table..

Chairs are most likely the next thing I'll be looking at - I've seen a plan online for chairs made from pallets that would suit this table - I just have to find it again... Things I would do differently second time around - I would have a go at tongue and grooving the top, as I reckon there...

    Nearly finishing my first table..

Thanks for that - The legs are just planks from another pallet, screwed together to form a corner piece. I had to hack space out of the pallet itself so the legs would fit in. Not knowing the right way to do things can be useful, as you can end up with interesting results!

    Nearly finishing my first table..

My wife has picked out the colour, she's a fashion designer so I get no say in these kind of things! Its a dark blue gray pastel type colour that would never have occurred to me. After a couple of coats it doesn't look too bad. The grain is still visible too, so that's a bonus, and I will make...

    Nearly finishing my first table..

So I've nearly finished my pallet based table - It was a make it up as you go effort, hence all the filler! Its turned out much better than I expected though, and I learned a lot about what to do and what not to do. I'm happy, as its the first thing I've ever made woodwork wise and its a very...

    First steps...

..and the router is now attached! I ended up using 3 6mm countersunk bolts which still have wide heads to catch on the mounting plate. Fits very nicely and I had the router spinning up in no time. I recommend removing the base plate, as it make it a lot easier to change the bit as well as...

    First steps...

OK, I've checked the table and the space available, it fits underneath with plenty of room to spare. I've also drilled new holes in the mounting plate and countersunk them. That was a bit of a pain trying to find where was the best place to put them, but using the base plate as a template is the...

    First steps...

From my 5 minutes investigation last night I found the router had plenty of space to fit in the gap under the table. The main issue was that the mounting plate didn't have holes in the right place. I shall look again to be sure...

I'll have a go and I'll certainly let you know, might be a few days though as I have baby related duties to take care of unfortunately...

    First steps...

Hmm.. The router physically fits below the mounting plate with space to spare, and the table is floor standing, so its hard to see how it won't fit - its just the mounting holes are in the wrong place. I think I may have to drill my own...

    First steps...

So I've got my Router (Bosch 1400 ACE) and a nice second hand Router table (Power Pro), and a nice starter set of bits (Bosch again, about 15 bits in a nice wooden box). Thanks to all the people who gave me advice in my previous post. I've done my first bit of work, very simple sign for my...

Where to find decent 1/4" shank tongue and groove bit

I think I'll follow the advice and go with a flute and a rebate cutter... just need to get them now...!

Where to find decent 1/4" shank tongue and groove bit

Thanks for all the replies - I'm certainly considering either buying or making a router table, it does seem like a sensible next step. As it seems that most tongue and groove bits are 1/2 inch, can you get any kind of adapter?

Where to find decent 1/4" shank tongue and groove bit

Hi, I'm just getting into this woodworking lark and have mainly been making furniture from pallet wood. I've been given a router, and would like to start using it properly (finding a router table might be another post). One of the first things I'd like to use it for is for creating tongue and...
