    Oak back door supplier

Can anyone help me with a recommendation of where to buy a back door, standard size 30" wide? I would like one made of oak, to match my kitchen with a single clear glass d/g pane in the top and a panelled bottom. Ought to be easy - but actually isn't. There are any number of on-line retailers...

    Edge planing with a P/T

I'm sure this is one of those things that just needs some logical thought .... I'm making panels for kitchen doors from oak and they about 8-9mm thick. When I plane up the edges of the pieces for glueing, it seems to be a rather hit and miss process. Either the edges don't meet in the middle...

    Attaching drawer fronts

A question for the kitchen fitters. What is the best way to attach drawer fronts to wooden kitchen drawers? Is there any sort of plate or other adustable fixing available which will allow me to line up the drawer fronts neatly afterwards?

    B & Q Select carcases

Does anybody know what type of MFC B & Q use for the Select Ash carcase? My best guess so far is Knonospan "Japanese Ash" but it would be nice to be a bit more certain before ordering a large sheet of the stuff.

Radius the end of a worktop

I have a breakfast bar which is arranged as a pensinsula. I would like to radius the free end and am wondering on the best approach. My ideas so far:- Use a router on a trammel bar - might need to be very long to get the curve I want - I thought about 1" of curve across a 900mm width. Would...

Sjoberg Workbench - good deal or not?

What do members think of this deal? http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=132527 Sjoberg 1950 bench + cupboard and drawer unit £300 + £13 carriage Is this good value for money or are there cons I should be aware of? Are these people a reliable firm to deal with? The fact that they are...

    15mm straight router cutter?

Does anybody know where I can get hold of a 15mm router cutter? In the so called metric age, most cutters still seem to be imperial and 5/8 is too large. I want to adjust some kitchen units to fit the odd corners, (I'm making the doors, so that isn't an issue) and the knockdown fittings used...

    Drawer runner mechanisms

I have just been over to darkest Lancashire and spent an hour or so in the extensive Woodfit showroom. I must say I didn't find the staff to be astonishingly helpful - the one lad there basically told me to look in the catalogue if I had any questions. To be fair, the locals seemed to be a bit...

    British Hardwoods worktops

Has anyone any experience of British Hardwoods worktops? From looking at their website, the quality looks good and it looks less of a patchwork than what the likes of B & Q offer, with wider staves and less joins. But, of course, websites can be deceptive although timber I have bought from...

    Elm kitchen doors

I have some nice boards of kiln-dried elm which I bought last autumn and have been sitting indoors getting acclimatised ever since. They were a bit of an impulse buy on eBay but the price was good. I've come around to thinking they would look nice in the kitchen, so I am considering making...

    Buying a Workbench

My wife would like to buy me a workbench for my birthday. My workshop is a double garage but room is not limitless because it also has to accommodate the usual children's bikes etc and I already have several woodworking machines. Can anybody recommend particular makes and features that they...

    Kitchen Materials Sources

This is slightly off topic but I do read from time to time posters who say that the best way to make money with wood is to fit and or make kitchens. I am planning to build my own kitchen and I am wondering where to get hold of the materials. I am looking for something a bit more professional...

Elm top - solid or veneered?

I am building a run of built in cupboards in elm which is about 8' (2m40) long. I would like to make a top which needs to be about 15" (38cm) wide. Is it wise to make such a large top from elm, given its reputation for movement. Presumably, I could limit movement across the width by using...

    Bandsaw adjustment

I'm looking for a bit of help setting up a bandsaw. The saw is a Metabo( Elektra Beckum) 317 and is new. The snag is I've never used a bandsaw before and the instructions aren't that great. I already have the tension set slightly higher than it recommends but as soon as I try and cut...
