    Help needed with Dinner Service

Thanks everyone, I have some Alder and fairly sure I can get Sycamore and Beech (although don't get the recipient started on whether or not Sycamore is native). The Alder is very green, it was only felled in December, so it should all be very exciting ;) I'll try and let you know what how it...

    Help needed with Dinner Service

I've been asked by a friend to make a full dinner service for her narrow boat, and I'm not sure what wood to use. Criteria, it has to be a native british species, preferably one that grows in the park that she is a ranger at (that way we can keep the cost down) and I'll probably have to turn...

    Door handles

If this is the wrong place please feel free to flame but... My kitchen is in need of a spruce up, but times are hard and budgets are tight (extremely so). One of the things that would really help would be new door handles (several are missing or broken) - but the cheapest I've seen are about...

    Strong case for euthanasia

I'm T2 too! maybe we should all start a new club? Seriously though Mailee - if it is T2 then it's not the end of the world. Personally I wouldn't even worry about getting a monitor to check yourself yet - just wait until you have spoken to the Doc. Then make sure you get everything you're...

    This months F & C Magazine

Nick - you're safe - this is definitely not the case with BW! or to be honest with any other woodworking magazine I get (BW, GW, Woodturning, and The Woodworker) whilst some are certainly better than others (BW is the best as far as I am concerned, and not because Nick is on this site, but...

    Whatever happened to English mustard?

I asked for English Mustard in a "posh" resturant (attached to the 4 star hotel I was staying in) and got wholegrain dijon! I sent it back and ended up speakin to the manager! Got my Colmans mustard in the end though, in a little pot, with a spoon so that I could choose how much I 'ad

Can anybody recommend a wireless n router for a pc & lap

I've had a Belkin and a NetGear - never been able to pick between them, but I'm sure someone has a theory why one is better than the other. Apparently the BT model has better range? no idea, but it's worth remembering that where you place these things can have a huge impact. To keep mine near...

What I think of this forum

In my (very) humble opinion, whilst constructive criticism is helpful, blind positivity ("oh my that's gorgeous") and needless negativity ("What a S**t finish" ) are both destructive and extremely unhelpful. It pays not to mix up the too. It's easy to spot constructive comments - they talk...

    Tool rest Stem size

Thanks for all your help folks, it's ordered now (just the 25mm stem and the 9" bar to start with) BTW One of the reasons for getting this was economic, I figured that I could add the extra's ('S' Bars etc) going forward. I'll let you know how I get on (might even manage a couple of photos ;)

    Tool rest Stem size

Thanks Pete, I wanted to replace mine, the one that came with the lathe is already dented, and very sticky (by which I mean the tools keep sticking in the dents) I've ground it back a couple of times (trying hard to keep it straight) but it's so soft, the first dig-in knackers it almost...

    Where are all the manifesto's?

I'd normally make some sarcastic comment at this point about cyncism, but I got nothing!

    Where are all the manifesto's?

Without getting into the merits of individual parties has anyone yet seen a manifesto from any of them? I could be wrong but I think I remember a time when manifesto's were published at least a month before an election - maybe longer - which gave you time to read, digest, and question the...

    Retirement clock part II

I like it Matt The figure in the stand is really nice - where did you get the Plum from? if I had to make a constructive criticism, I'd have made the base a little thinner in the body, or the frame for the clock a little bigger as they look slightly out of proportion to my eye (but that's...
