    Christmas tree, decorations.

A story I read some years ago: Woman gets a call from her gynecologist asking if her appointment can be brought forward to asap. She has a quick wash and makes the appointment. Her gynecologist says something on the lines of 'Oh we have made an effort today haven't we?' Later in the day her...

    Festool newbie....

With Festool trying to keep their prices up it makes Bricks and mortar sellers the best value imo. They show you the tool, you look quietly hesitant and the price drops to lower than online. :)

    Leather handbag cleaning

My son in law valets cars so I asked him how he cleans leather seats. He said he uses soapy water and a very gentle scrubbing action with those kitchen sponge/green scourers.

    Absolutely diabolical

I prefer to shop at Aldi as the staff always seem energised and cheerful. At Tesco, many of the workers have a 'please shoot me' look to them.

What type of tool can I use for this please?

Can't remember where I saw this but have it saved for a possible build some day:

    Woodwork heaven

Most of the pics I've seen of Bulgarian houses have the stairs on the outside. I'm curious as to why, anyone know?

What Contitutes Hand Made or Hand Crafted

I read that some Native Americans were so overwhelmed by demand for their carvings that they started using cnc machines to do the roughing out and then finished them by hand. To me that's still hand made as the only skill in roughing out is to not go too far. The buying public are so used to...

Forging back to growth (business turnaround story)

Cheap tat is for the boom times. In a recession people want quality.

    Prepaid mobile in UK.

I'm on the Giffgaff Hokey Kokey package. £5 gets you 60 minutes/300 texts per month with 0800 numbers free. No contract so doing it as a one off is fine. Another bonus is that you get a minute added for every minute of non Giffgaff calls to you. I now keep the sales calls to me going for a...

    NHS and politicians

It may seem rose tinted but I firmly believe that working together for positive outcomes is far more productive than fighting against each other for negative results. Accepting that the opposition 'might' have a point seems to be a no-no for many Brits. 'If I can prove you wrong that proves I'm...

    NHS and politicians

No enterprise needs more than 5 layers of management. I agree with the idea of having a matron for each hospital. She should be a battleaxe that even the doctors are frightened of. 20 years ago a nurse told me that managers were being brought in to cut costs and they did it by sacking cleaners.

    Tanking a basement

Would a 2 part epoxy paint work? As in isolate the space from the damp.

    What E-Ciggy

My son gave me an e-cig middle of May, just as a chest infection was getting bad enough to stop me managing to smoke the rollies. So I sort of got forced onto the e-cig. After a week of not smoking I though I'd better have a spare so got a generic one in a blister pack for £20. The type that...

Homemade disk sander or something else?

afaik you can can't use a speed controller on an induction motor but how about using one of those yellow 110v transformers as used on building sites? 2800rpm to 1400rpm or less?

Bowl finish - Does toy safe have any food safe implication?

Does this mean that food safe products are also toy safe?

    New fangled workbench

Ouch. :) Biggest problem is that you have to learn how to fettle them to get best results and I'm still in the learning curve with mine. This might interest you: http://www.songofthegreatlakes.com/tsshowdown.htm http://www.builtwithashopsmith.blogspot ... -results=7

    New fangled workbench

He has a Shopsmith so I guess he's used to alternative designs.

Are we much different from these monkeys?

I read of some researchers teaching a simple head to head strategy game to chimps. Winner got a tidbit, loser got nothing. Then they matched the best chimp against the worst and of course the worst chimp stopped playing, no point. So the best chimp allowed the other one to win one game in four...

Water cooled spindle bit me lol

Good point Bob. I think I'll be ok as the workshop is a bedroom but a bottle of antifreeze isn't going to break the bank.

    Ready for a craft fair?

Selling is a craft of its own. I'd price items at least double whatever wholesale price you'd give to a retailer. Here's some useful tips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaJrLK2ohzg
