    Best Makita 18v tools

I did not do anything very complicated, I bought a clip on fitting that allows you to use the newer lithium ion batteries and then I can use the lithium ion charger. Sorry if that isn't what you wanted! Tim

    Best Makita 18v tools

I have a fiveteen year old Makita cordless drill which I converted from nicad to lithium ion with a cheap eBay fitting, built like a tank and still going strong, bought a newer lithium ion cordless drill, lighter and equally efficient, I have just bought the cordless ROS, which is so convenient...

    Super glue

Just another warning about heat generation with CA especially if using an accelerator (which you may not need if you are using thin viscosity in fine cracks). I use a thicker viscosity off Amazon for pen finishes and managed to burn my finger quite badly last week when a drip of glue and...

    Looking into getting a lathe

I have only been turning for about a year on and off and I have the Rutland's lathe, which is a small lathe similar to the small Jet lathe. It is a very good lathe for a beginner but if I was to buy a new one I would think about variable speed and a bigger diameter capacity if I wanted to turn...

Death Star (sorry if this has already been posted)

Great video as ever. I just love the fact that May the 4th is Star Wars day, I would never have thought of that!

    chucks and jaws

Marcros I have the SC3 for my mini lathe, I have no complaints it is a solid well made bit of kit and fine for my needs but the SC4 is that bit bigger and has an indexable backplate which the SC3 does not.

    Worksharp 3000

I would agree with Jim, nicely made bit of kit and does what it says. I have also made my own extra wheels out of MDF. I have not used the wheels that allow you to see lathe tool cutting faces for sharpening freehand but it is a clever idea. I would buy it again

    First pens, a slippery slope!

Thanks for the comments, you are right about the junctions, the European pen design was an interesting choice for my first pen but I will endeavour to persevere. The dust collector is a WIP and I may well chop bits off if needed or redesign it completely, although so far for pen turning it is...

    First pens, a slippery slope!

I have posted something similar on the what have you made today thread. However I thought I would post here as it is all turning related. I am just finishing my lathe workbench (just some drawers to sort out in the base) and I threw together a small project dust collector, based on designs on...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Three things, one a work in progress: A workbench for my lathe Dust collection for small projects, like pen turning, which works really well. My first turned pens, European style twist pens in oak and sapele and a slimline in oak, finished with CA glue. I have a way to go but I will have...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

You are on a slippery slope, I only started turning on my Rutland's special offer a few weeks ago and already it has taken over my workbench and I am continually thinking about things I could turn. I turned a file handle out of a 2x4 offcut and was embarrassingly proud. For a first go that is an...

    table saw rip fences

Marc, Here is the link to my workstation build on this site. another-axminster-ts-200-workstation-wip-with-photos-t70849.html Hopefully that will show you how not to do it. If I were doing it again I would put a router in the left hand side table, I still might. Tim

    table saw rip fences

I bought the Axminster band saw upgrade fence. I also fitted an aluminium zero clearance insert plate and built a workstation. Here it is almost completed. Have a search on here for a blow by blow account from a couple of years ago. Regards, Tim

Post a photo of the last thing you made

After having made some handles for some carbide inserts on my new mini lathe, over the last few days, out of beech and oak. Today this was my first go at faceplate turning. Walnut and beech, I am pleased with it as a first attempt. However I made lots of mistakes and next time I will do...

    Two simple bandsaw boxes. WIP.

Looking good, have fun with the sanding! Is that " The drunken wood workers" design?

looking for guidance on re-sawing with a tablesaw

On a similar note B&Q no longer cut small length timber for customers after one of their staff lost a hand on their big panel saws last year. Depending on the person you get they will get out a hand saw!

    Sceppach CS 55 Plunge saw

Be aware that the depth stop is set to measure when the saw is flat on a surface so it is not set for measuring from the guide plate. I have no idea why! Easily fixed with a new indicator block stuck on. Dust collection could be improved although I have seen a fettle on YouTube using a folding...

    Budget thicknesser - Titan TTB579PLN

I have been tempted by this as well, as a planer/thicknesser is on my wish list but I cannot justify the expense of one of the less budgetmodels. I will be interested in your experience of it in use. I suspect Rutlands edits it's reviews I have never read a bad one but I have certainly seen...
