    Center drill holder lathe/drillpress project

I do like the idea of the magnet...I'm just setting my lathe up in the new workshop today, I may make one myself!

    Who needs a workshop anyway.

My goodness, that is rather stunning! I've always wanted to have a crack at glass work (see what I did there?)

    Lock Spring

You might find it easier to get it heated to blue evenly if you do so by placing it on a tray of sand and heating that. It diffuses the heat nicely, and allows a bit more control over small items

Which Software do you use? Sketchup, AutoCAD or another?

I completed a degree in 3d visualization software, and I used to use a now-free piece of software called true space 7 for all my designs. That may be worth a look at, it was particularly good for architectural work as its coordinate system was excellent. Nowadays, however, I just use a pencil...

    Lock Spring

A good source of spring steel is the mainspring from an old clock, as long as the clock is not worth repairing! Sometimes you can buy a job lot of them on places like eBay for peanuts. It goes without saying, mind, to be phenomenally careful if removing the mainspring from a casing. Those will...

New method for restoring old wooden planes

I'm fairly sure that counts as sacrilege... Tools share the same status as books in my head, as items to be revered and tended and used for their intended purpose. Unless its from Homebase, in which case it can fester in any hell you care to name.

    Travel Cocktail Cabinet

The front panel was made up of two boards planed flat on the edges and glued together. Then I drew the arches onto the front and drilled a couple of holes into the waste part, large enough to insert the blade of a coping saw into. After the waste bits were cut out, it was a simple job with some...

    Travel Cocktail Cabinet

Oddly enough, I did make a carved walking stick a few years back for a competition, that had a croquet mallet head attachment...if I can find it, I shall put a picture up Regards, Dave

    Travel Cocktail Cabinet

Thank you all, I appreciate the appreciation! I am never too sure how these things will go down, it's nice to get an outside opinion on my to tinkerings. Some brilliant suggestions too! The humidor would be marvellous, however as I don't smoke I feel I would not be able to out it to full use...

    Travel Cocktail Cabinet

Hi folks, A little while ago my ladyfriend and I went on a picnic with a group of friends, and while it was lovely there was a definite issue regarding the safe transportation of liquid-based intoxicants. In an attempt to solve this (and for a bit of a laugh) I retreated to my workshop and...

    Mortis and tenon joint.

I used to live in Birmingham, and I found Great Barr Sawmills to be a great source of timber if that is anywhere near you

    Modifying my current bench top!

I have to say I would err on the side of caution and go for the more substantial surface if you can stretch to it...that way if you ever do need to do some more punishing work on it, the option is there.

    Here's one I made earlier...

That's a beautiful piece of work
