    Not so smart meter

We woke up one January morning to a cold house, the boiler was not working. After attempting to relight it a few times, I called a boiler engineer and sat back and waited for him to arrive. Getting on for lunchtime I tried to boil the spuds on our gas hob, only to discover we had no gas! Problem...

    Kitchen Tap Query

This seems to describe my problem exactly! It seems in my ignorance I bought the wrong type of tap, although in my defence I didn't see any reference to this in any of the online stores. Thanks to all who replied, even the first two, who seem to know as little as I do about kitchen taps.

    Headband Magnifier/Glasses with LED

Another vote for the anglepoise type, having the light is essential, they are pretty useless without.

    Kitchen Tap Query

I have just read the "Flexible tap connectors" thread so I suspect that there may be some knowledgeable plumbers on here to answer my question! Some months ago I replaced the tap in the kitchen sink. The tap is the same size and design of the original but a different make, which is a swivelling...

    Queen Elizabeth has passed away.

I'm sad to hear that the Queen has died, but pleased to notice the BBC did not shy away from using the word "died" rather than "passed" and similar which seems to be the norm these days.

Car electrics. Anyone here any good?!

Rather ominously, the brightness control is effected via the cpu.

2x electric leaf blowers/vacuums both not working. Anything obvious to check?

The more likely cause is that the brush holders in the motor are rusted/corroded so that the spring behind the brushes cannot push them into contact with the commutator. This is a job that requires a fair amount of dismantling but is fairly straightforward, as you have nothing to lose except...

    Cross-Cut Sled Frustrations

I used the 5 cut method but didn't bother with the calculations, a small adjustment each time will soon get you there.

Ladders against gutters... And what to do when getting onto a roof ladder?

We used to do a lot of tv aerial installation work in the pre health and safety days but were very conscious of good practice and would concur with most of the advice given, foot the ladder properly, tie to an eyelet and use a padded roof ladder with good quality wheels, also use a safety...

    Imperial drill bits

All the recommended suppliers are very coy about their P&P charges, I was looking to replace a broken cobalt drill to keep the set complete but will not bother until I really need it, I already have all the drill bits I am likely to need so a £50 or £60 order to qualify for free delivery is...

Aldi bandsaw - got a dodgy one or are they all poo?

I also bought a bandsaw from Aldi about 10 years ago when the price was £79.99 if I remember correctly. Upon assembly and using the tensioner I could see the wheels distort and deflect, so I thought this is going to cause me nothing but problems and back to the shop it went without even running it.

    How to clean thicknesser rollers?

Google "Rubber Roller Restorer" brings up plenty to choose from, all promise miracles, I have used the Electrolube one and it works well.
