    Planer(jointer) feed direction

Thanks for the replies. It is a machine HBM 10. I have employed all techniques mentioned and increased the knife height(was fixed on minimum difference in/out table) and am pleased to report better results. Thanks

    Planer(jointer) feed direction

Hello Been reviving my tools while the children are away! I have been planing boards to make a bathroom cabinet. Some of the stock isn’t great so has taken many passes to flatten a side - to get down to the hollow at the non feed end. Thing is, I end up with ‘wedge‘ shaped planks with the feed...

    Customs declarations and brexit

“Is Brexit of any interest in the media in the Netherlands?” It was huge at the time but now, not really. People I speak to are either for Nexit - Netherlands exit, or they are disappointed with the UK. Many arguments against the EU seem to me to be upside down. ‘Elf an safety’ stifling...

    Customs declarations and brexit

Workshop forum and bloody Brexit. Well, here is my oar... I didn’t/don’t know whether Brexit was or is for the long term good of the UK. l live in the EU and am married to a European but I can trace my ‘Britishness’ back 300 years or more and mostly boring, the only ‘foreigners’ being...

    Clear Finish for exterior use

This is the look/colour I am after but if I leave it outside it will look like that for about a week, whereas with varnish it looks very different but with a few coats will stay like that for years, after a wipe down with a wet cloth!

    Clear Finish for exterior use

Ok, thanks. Went for Danish oil then epiphanes gloss in the end. Very different look but should hold up. Still interested in finding a finish that preserves the ‘unfinished’ looks and colour of white oak. Will look for water based and do some experiments.

    Clear Finish for exterior use

Any other suggestions? I have just used oil & varnish on this one but it looks very different & I still like the light colour pre-treatment.

    Clear Finish for exterior use

With all the damp and dirt I think it probably needs something or it’ll split.

    Clear Finish for exterior use

I have made a couple of horse name boards from a piece of American white oak. I’ve sanded them and really like the colour. However, I have used yacht varnish before and this gives a yellow finish making it look a bit like pine. Any recommendations for rough use finish that will keep the nice...

    Router Table Advice

I bought the ujk iron table and lift with a dewalt 625. I have it working now reliably and I would recommend it. I was a beginner when I bought it and still am, really. All tables and lifts suffer from dust contamination and I am disappointed with the lift lock mechanism which does not work. You...

How do I cut a rebate following a curved edge on a router table?

My woodwork is more on the ‘murdering a piece of teak’ scale. It is part of a hatch surround for my old Dutch steel sailing boat that I am refitting. I actually feel bad somebody better is not working the wood but it is the best type for that use. Your work is truly inspirational/aspirational...

How do I cut a rebate following a curved edge on a router table?

Tried it, worked well, first time, with double sided sticky on the sub fence, which I used the bandsaw offcut of the original piece. Happy with the result, thanks!

How do I cut a rebate following a curved edge on a router table?

This will do it I think, thanks!

How do I cut a rebate following a curved edge on a router table?

Disinterior is correct, I am not really trying to cut a rebate, sorry, newbie with the terms, I am trying to cut a channel offset from the curved edge. I have done it with a piece of pine on my router table but not satisfied with the results - the channel or inside edge as it will become, is not...

How do I cut a rebate following a curved edge on a router table?

Bearing follower and template seems to be the answer as I don’t really want to buy any extra equipment. The ‘trench‘ edge is as visible as the top edge(hatch opening surround) so needs to be smooth. Looks like a router no table job. Thanks for the replies. Might try an edge cutter if I can get...

How do I cut a rebate following a curved edge on a router table?

I have tried pushing the wood against the fence at the required distance from the cutter but a constant distance from the curved edge is difficult to keep by hand resulting in a ‘wobbly’ trench....it also turned the router table into a formidable weapon! Thankfully it was just a practice piece...

    axminster bandsaw awhbs450n

I have this bandsaw and have used it correctly and incorrectly for a few years! Just recently it has developed a vibration in the upper wheel which means the blade oscillates forward - backwards affecting the cut. Has anybody else had this problem and found a cure and if so, what is it, please?

    I've bought a Woodrat

Just to update, if anybody was having similar problems, I phoned Martin at woodrat & he confirmed it was ok to sand a bit off the sides of the centre button guage so it slides more easily. I did this and it works well now and I have had some success with dovetails. Great device.

    Cascamite WBP

I pretty much built a sailing dinghy using cascamite. It was recommended and used by the British boatbuilding school who run great woodworking courses btw. The dinghy has been sailed successfully for over a year & as far as I know, none of the boatbuilding school boats have fallen apart! I have...
