    Fitting new blades

Sorry, folks, but I cheat! I ordered reverse FD blades from Mike and found that I just couldn't see of feel what way up to put them.......... so I bought a magnifying glass! :) Stevebuk - interesting that you mentioned using No 7 on 3/4 inch oak. I have been having trouble using No. 5s, so I...

The Art Of Drawing And Creating Patterns

I am trying to plough through the Gimp tutorials on Scrollsaw Village at the moment, but it isn't easy because the videos were done in 2009, so the version I have is not quite the same. I did try following some YouTube videos, but had the same problem and came to the conclusion that the Gimp...

The Art Of Drawing And Creating Patterns

Thank you CHJ. I wasn't sure if Vista counted as being later than XP or if it was different. Anyway, you said it should work, and it did! =D> Now I just have to figure out how the hell to use it! :D Chris

The Art Of Drawing And Creating Patterns

I have just looked into getting Gimp on my computer, but am finding even the download instructions difficult. The site talks about windows XP, but does anyone know if it will work on windows vista? If it does, how can I find out what CPU my laptop has, because the site says it will only work...

A tip off a USA forum

I'm with Bryan! I used to just use spray mount but found that it could be difficult to get the patterns off, and it often left a residue, especially on MDF. I now cover the surface in masking tape before using the spray mount and patterns come off clean as a whistle. Like the address label...

    Hegner buying advice, please

Thank you Mark, I didn't realise that - certainly worth getting, then. I'll have a look at the Delta, Frank, but I think the others have convinced me to go Hegner. :) Chris

    Hegner buying advice, please

Thanks, Gary. Sadly eBay UK isn't really an option for me, and eBay France is pants (although they do sometimes feature Hegners from Germany). However, there is a chap who owes us some money and he has a Hegner he doesn't use. No idea what model or age it is, but I might ask and see what...

Help! Which scroll saw to buy!

I went for a Record saw before I bought the Axminster, but had to send it back as it didn't work. :(

    Hegner buying advice, please

Hi Russell, My Axminster is an AWVFS, and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy! Some folk on here have the next model up, and seem happy enough with it (although I think some people have had to adapt the blade holders to make them work OK), but I sincerely wish I had saved up for a...

Help! Which scroll saw to buy!

Hi JimiJimi, Sorry to be the voice of doom and gloom, but I was in your position about a year ago, and everyone told me not to get a cheap saw. However, I only had around £100-£150 to spend, and I wanted to get going on my new hobby, so I bought the AWVFS. DO NOT DO IT! It takes me longer to...

    Hegner buying advice, please

Hummmm, so now I have to decide whether to go for the least expensive (Multicut 1) or buy a few lottery tickets and hold out for a 2s :) Thank you all for your advice. Chris

    Hegner buying advice, please

Thanks folks! Hutzel - what model is your Hegner? The reason I thought of getting the quick release blade thingy is that at present it takes me longer to change the blades on my Axminster than it does to saw anything! I think this may just be an inherent design flaw with the Axminster...

    Hegner buying advice, please

Hi, I have finally decided to give up on my Axminster saw and upgrade to a Hegner. The question is, which one? Funds are tight, but I do not want to make the same mistake as I made with the Axminster - I would rather buy second hand or wait a while in order to get the best one for my needs. I...

    Rifflers

I had never heard of these before, so looked them up on google........... they look like something a dentist would use! So far I have only used sharpened lolly sticks with sandpaper stuck on them, metal files and bits of sandpaper wrapped around artists' brush handles, so these look like they...

    Yet more reindeer.....

Well, these reindeer are made from mdf, and I have tried and tried using acrylic paint, but no matter what primer and/or undercoat I use I cannot get a smooth finish using a brush or a paint sponge. Perhaps if I had a sprayer it would be better, but until I can afford one I am using good, old...

    Yet more reindeer.....

Following on from recent posts, here are my reindeer.... They will be shortly heading for a 'Marche de Noel' in a town near us. I also made the whole reindeer family in dark oak. And a Nativity Puzzle Set (design by Judy and Dave Peterson) Plus loads of puzzles, tree ornaments and gifts...

    Olson conversion kit?

That looks really good, but (like the Olson one) I am not sure it would fit on my Axminster. A tried and tested review would be good anyway, though. :)

    Olson conversion kit?

I am still having great problems with the blade clamps on my Axminster AWVFS. Even with the adaptations I have made the blades still slip, and I need to renew the screws every week or so. I came across the Olson conversion kit while trawling the web today and wonder if anyone has used this on...
