Thanks to all. This is one of the most informative and interesting posts that this Yank has seen. Ray in the Colonies

    Joseph Marples try squares

Thanks for the clarification regarding the Marples name. Industry "consolidation" like this makes life frustrating for people that are new to the craft and potentially expensive if one has to buy a tool twice. Ray

    Joseph Marples try squares

Thanks for the link. I have been looking for a double square also. Since I am in the US, I assume Axminster may be too costly due to shipping, but I will look.

    Joseph Marples try squares

I have looking for a good new try square that fits my budget and is actually square. It appears as if the Marples try square may be the best fit for me. Have any members used these? How do you like them? Thanks Ray

How long for a Rob Cosman plane tuning?

I was too tired to read all of the posts to see if someone else mentioned this: Didn't Mr. Cosman contaminate his fine stone when he moved his blade from a coarser stone to his fine stone without removing the coarser grit/swarf?

My Attempt at a review of the new Stanley 60.5 Block Plane

If you are truly a rookie at hand planes, I would like to offer one piece of advice regarding this plane. The cap on top of the iron will bend fairly easily if the wheel is tightened too much. The instructions do not offer much direction as to how to judge the correct tightness. This was my...

    Authentic or far east clone?

I have read that the orignal Eclipse honing guide is a better tool than the clones that are being made in China/etc. Is this an original or as good as the original? http://www.cromwell.co.uk/ECL5530810C Thanks from the colonies.

    Narex paring chisels

Thanks for the reply and potentially very good news. I look forward to hearing how they perform. Any idea as to cost of shipping a set to US 55311?

    Cutters for Record 044 plane

I looked but could only find a set for a combination plane and someone earlier stated that the 044 blades were unique to the 044. thanks

    Cutters for Record 044 plane

Thanks. I will look into it, but I assume shipping will put it over "reasonable" for me. I have been watching ebay for over a year, so my definition of reasonable may change.

    Cutters for Record 044 plane

I have a 044 with one cutter-a 5/8". I have been unable to locate additional original cutters and I am wondering if anyone has successfully used other manufacturer' s cutters. It would be nice to widen the field of search. Thanks

    Narex paring chisels

Has anyone gained any experience with Narex paring chisels? I have not been able to find any reviews. It appears as if they are not even available from the usual suspects in North America. They are available through Workshop Heaven- sorry, I guess I am not allowed to post links Thanks, Ray

    British Saws

Based on my inexperience with the Queen's English, you will soon discover that I am not from your side of the pond. I hope that I will be allowed to participate anyway. I am very new to the craft and I am finding it to be very satisfying. I contacted the manufacturer of Pax and Lynx saws a few...
