Axminster can do 24 hour delivery

How about that? I had the order reordered by a friendly Axminster guy from this forum. Not only did that arrive today within 24 hours, but the 'missing' original order turned up half an hour before that, as if to not be put to shame. It must have taken the scenic route around the Outer Hebrides...

Axminster can do 24 hour delivery

Ordered 23rd October, dispatched same day. Never heard anything from them since. It's now 29th. Have phoned them, but they appear to be overwhelmed with customer calls and you are simply transferred to an answer machine. If I get too impatient I may re-order elsewhere and select non-Royal Mail...

    End grain beads

Russell, I had a quick go on a piece of pine. I can see this is possible, but the gouge has to be placed as close as possible to the centerline otherwise the tip tends to pull to the left or right depending on whether it is higher or lower. I also have to grip from both sides tightly to feel...

    End grain beads

This is what I use for spindle work. But the technique used for spindle turning cannot be directly tranferred to the end of the grain. What technique do you use? I can only imagine that the gouge would have to start from inside the groove and work upwards, climbing uphill, as opposed to downhill...

    End grain beads

This is what I've tried, but wondered whether there was a more "elegant" solution. Nikki

    End grain beads

I've been woodturning as a hobby for 4 months now. I have one question which has been bugging me. Which is the preferred tool for cutting beads on the end grain? I'm making some little boxes and I'm finding it time consuming decorating the flat top of the lids with beads. I've currently resorted...

    Heightening saw fence

Scrit, Thanks for the ideas. I can't use a panel raising bit because I only need a 5 degree chamfer for this particluar project. I wonder how long it would take to raise a panel on a CNC mill? Nikki

    Heightening saw fence

I completely agree with you concerning the safety issues. I wouldn't dream of allowing anyone else to use my table saw, let alone use such a jig with it. And I don't personally encourage anyone to cut raised panels in this way unless they are fully aware of the inherent dangers that go along...

    Heightening saw fence

Brilliant, just found a jig as you have described! Keeps your hands well clear of the blade. http://www.newwoodworker.com/pnlrasjig.html Nikki

    Heightening saw fence

Anyone know a way of extending the height of the Kity 419 saw's fence without drilling holes into it? I need to fix a piece of 3/4"x8" plywood to it to make it feasible to cut raised panels, safely. Here's one attempt, but with the standard fence. Never again though. I probably need to make a...

Varnishing all six sides at once?

Yes, separately, that's what I'm doing. I'd just use an extra set of hinges and then all parts can be hung, separately. Thanks for the technique. I'll look into building a platform with a few sharp nails sticking out to rest the parts on. That's given me a few ideas.

Varnishing all six sides at once?

I just built a canopy for an aquarium. It consists of three main parts. The top lid is cut into two parts so that it articulates with flush hinges. Those two parts are hinged with cabinet hinges 90 degrees to the main rectangular base that then rests on the aquarium with a rebate cut on the...

    My first table sawz

I'm in the middle of making an aquarium canopy. I'm duplicating the design of a larger one I bought a couple of years ago which was for a 330L tank. Next, I'm making side cabinets with bookcases to match my 5' aquarium. After that, it's beds and wardrobes. This house has no furniture, except for...

    My first table sawz

Woohoooo! The iron grip of the red threadlock is holding. The motor axle will most likely sheer off now , but the pulley is surely bolted for infinity and beyond! Let's hope I don't have to remove it, erm, any time soon.. My first table saw! :D

    My first table sawz

Apart from the table extension and sliding carriage, it was "ready" to cut wood, straight out of the box. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. Here's the problem I had with my first Kity 419 a couple of weeks ago: https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/view ... ght=#72938 I had a replacement come...

    My first table sawz

Sorry, it's the nut that holds the induction motor's pulley. I'll correct that in the original message. Nikki

    My first table sawz

OK. I got my replacement Kity 419 table saw last Tuesday. The first thing I did was look for any major faults that would require the replacement saw to be sent back. The blade angle adjusts nicely and locks in place, unlike the last one. There's a bit of incomplete casting along one side of a...

    My first table saw

I "could" sort the saw out myself. I'd just need my Dremel with a file attachment to file away just 3mm of steel to extend a slot. But something is telling me that I shouldn't have to do this to a new machine. And there's a small chance that that may not be the problem and then I'd have some...

    My first table saw

The supplier of my Kity 419 came up with some theories why the machine won't lock at 90 degrees. One was that the blade not being parallel to the mitre slots was causing the limited movement. Anyway, they told me how to align the blade by unscrewing 2 pairs of bolts located on the table and...
