For Sale Band saws and lathe-all gone.

I have lost the use of my feet and fingers, and am therefore disposing of the contents of my workshop and accumulated woodworking tools. Today I am offering a Nutool bandsaw, a Black and Decker three-wheel bandsaw, and a lathe based on Picador components. All items are collection only, and are...

    Record 405 cutters

I have a Record 405 with no cutters, and therefore no pattern for comparison. However, it looks as if Stanley 45 cutters would fit, as well as Record 50c. I'd particularly like to use the 50c, if they will work. Is there anyone who could advise? (Where is Alf when you need her?) Thanks in advance.

    Car hand controls

I am soon going to have to make the transition to an automatic with hand controls, as I'm losing the feeling in my feet. I'd like the benefit of anyone's experience in this area, whether it's with a proper Des Gosling conversion, steering wheel ring, push - pull even the cheap aluminium...

    Withdrawn.

    Combination plane ID

Having a clear out, and found this hiding with an accumulation of Stanley 45s. It has the same system as the 45 for locking the cutter – wingnut and cylinder with a tapered flat, but the blade and its orientation are skewed. It may not be complete, as there is no centre section. Handle and knob...

    English box wood price reduced

Now sold and in the post. Thanks to all who have expressed interest. Offers received - no more for the moment, thank you. English box wood, felled about ten years ago. Dry, no visible insect damage (though the bark is still on), and no visible checks or splits in the ends. It is in logs of...

    Dog nail grinders

Does anyone have any experience of these? I have a rescued dog whose confidence is growing very nicely, but who really doesn't like nail clippers. A quiet, gentle grinder seems like a good idea. They mostly look like a Dremel with a jig to locate the nail. This, obviously, is another...

    Insect numbers

I drove about 30 miles today, and, at the end of the trip was surprised to see what I haven't seen for years - a windscreen covered in insects. Front of the car, too. I think this is good news for insectivores. Has anyone else noticed it? Is it maybe to do with neonicotinoids?

    Woodworm entry holes

I understand that the holes we see in wood and associate with woodworm infestation are exit holes. My question is, how do the woodworm get in to the wood, and what traces do they leave of their entry? It would be much more useful, in terms of treatment, to be able to identify their presence from...

Screw for toe of rear handle of Record Marples No 5

I have a Record Marples No 5 in good, clean order, but it is missing the rear handle toe screw – No 6 in the picture. This screw should be a round-headed 7/32"-20 tpi Whitworth. However, as the plane has resin handles, the toe is somewhat thicker than the wooden equivalent, so the screw needs to...

    H. PENYCATE

In the course of a clear out, I find have several planes - hollows and rounds - very firmly marked 'H. PENYCATE'. My feeling is that he made them, very nicely indeed, and I'd be fascinated to know more about him. My guess, from the feel of the planes, is that he (or she) is no longer with us...

    Thomas Darby Moving Fillister

I’m having a clear-out, and one of the interesting things that has to go is this C18 plane. It‘s a Birmingham plane, with unusual lignum wear pads. It’s complete, some worm holes but all inactive, and needs a little TLC – one of the lignum pieces needs re-gluing, the depth stop is loose – but...

    Stanley 5 1/2 plane

SOLD £35.00 This is pretty well brand new in original box, and I don't think it's ever been used. It's sharp, seems square, and works well. However, it has some point been a little damp and contact with the box has left slight staining - not pitting - on the sole. Nothing that a little use won't...

    Any information about this picture?

I know this isn't an art forum, but it is full of people who know odd things. I'd like to know more about the picture. Is he Belgian, or Asian? Has anyone seen anything like him? Seems to be ink from a brush, though this is probably a print. Thanks in advance - it's an interesting picture, anyway.

    Cost of housebuilding

This may be a daft question, and I'm not expecting a precise answer, but how much would it cost, in terms of materials and labour, to build a pretty average 3-bedroom house in a middling expensive part of England, excluding plot costs, utility fees, Section 106 money, economies of scale...
