Seconded. I smell a great story.

Very impressed with Axminster customer service

It's their own brand, bottom of the range (AWFS16, or something very like that). A nice machine, really nice considering how low the price is.

Very impressed with Axminster customer service

I've had a very positive experience with Axminster, thought I'd share: I ordered (among other things) a new scroll saw a few weeks ago. Thanks to B&Q messing me around with the timber, I wasn't able to get workbenches built, so my lovely new tools were left sitting in the boxes. Last Thursday...

    stitched back hand

I'm not so sure. I think it is an employer's responsibility to make sure someone is trained with the tools they use for work, and make sure can use them safely. Continuing to employ someone who isn't trained with power tools or uses them unsafely despite training is an implicit endorsement of...

I've somehow never heard of them before. Upon looking them up, I can see why you're terrified of them.

That's the thing: these accidents almost always happen when someone is using tools incorrectly, but it only takes a moment. The lesson, I think, is to never do the things we know are unsafe on the basis that "it's just one time" and "I'll be careful". Off-topic, but what's RAS?

    Best Source for Blanks?

At £73 total cost for those I think you're doing OK. Do you mind sharing which company it was? I'm also in NI, and while finding free timber someone has chopped down isn't too hard, buying something that's ready to go can be a challenge.

    Turning a coconut shell?

Seconding the tendency to create shrapnel. Wear a full face shield!

    People's lathes?

I got the axminster AWSL (£190) in the past year, added the Dakota XT650 chuck set from Rutlands (£120). I'm pretty happy with it so far. The only thing I would complain of is that the tailstock alignment is poor on mine, and I've seen others complain of that too. Not a problem when you're...

The box, the sale, the query, the blank, the commision.

Very impressive. It looks like some exotic stone as much as like wood.

    Very interesting. Thanks!

Novice - skew chisel advice please

Am I understanding correctly that bowl blanks are normally taken from a vertical slice rather than a horizontal one? I never realised that.

More on Scroll Chucks, this time for smaller work

Thanks, Mick. By happy coincidence that's what the xt650 has.
