I have the Sorby set too and they've been brilliant.

    please advise on lathe stand

Something I wanted to do but the height was bang on without the blocks. It is a bit of a pain to fish the shavings from out under the small gap but not impossible.

    please advise on lathe stand

I think even bolted down this type of stand seems to have too much flex in it. I added a bit of an overhang on the front to give my some room for my knees. I haven't had a problem with it getting in the way of the chisel handles yet. The lathe bed now......that always seems to be wherever I...

    please advise on lathe stand

Howdy, My Draper came with a stand just like that. It was about as stable as a big jelly so I chucked it and mounted the lathe on a thick wood worktop and bolted it to a sturdy cupboard. Now, with a couple of bags of gravel its rock solid and full of handy drawers. As for the shavings, as...

    UK Workshop Merchandise

£11.60 plus postage is a little steep for a plain ceramic mug and a logo. If you just want white ceramic mugs with logo (pending mod approval) and personalised with your name you can have a look at:- http://www.algolonline.co.uk/mugs.html They start at £8.00 including UK delivery (but I...

    advice needed charnwood 813 + 860

Nothing official - just my vague opinion.... :) The different cast beds look slightly different but the headstocks all appear to be almost identical. The SIP has the kill-switch on the front left, the Draper has a blanking plate in the same place and the emergency stop on a long cord...

    advice needed charnwood 813 + 860

I think the SIP is one of the clones similar to my Draper:- https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/view ... hp?t=37160 One thing I would recommend regarding the steel stand though - throw it away! :D Its reaaaaallly flimsy. Bolt the bed on to a piece of 3inch worktop and attach it to a sturdy...

What to look for in a Lathe (for a beginner)

Howdy all, I've been away from turning for a few months - recovering from a non-lathe related hand injury... but I'm back now! I bought a Draper WTL95 as my first lathe. I've had it for over a year now and I am very pleased with it. It has a solid cast bed and variable speed (so no belt...

    Turning tulipwood

Graham, I had a similar problem with my first two attempts at Tulipwood (Poplar). The wood was white and rather soft and fibrous and I found it almost impossible to get a decent finish. As others have mentioned, this is also due to my lack of finesse...you can probably turn balsa if your tools...
