    Newbie nightmare....

Thanks Keith, luckily I've got my Axi lathe which runs like a dream so at least I can continue with a few projects until the saw is rectified. On the plus side, the longer I wait the more advice & info I can learn from!.

Cheers Geoff, dealt with them once before when my lathe conked out & with their outstanding help it was back up & running within a week. I know there's light at the end of the tunnel but already my patience is wearing thin!!.

Hey all, unsure as to why I'm writing this, just having a vent I suppose!. Pen kits for beginner

Hi Elaine, I saved up my pocket money & bought the deluxe starter kit from turners retreat, everything there that you will need & it came with a few free pen blanks to get started which was a result, however, it's a bit pricey, I just had to do a few more paper rounds that's all!. I buy all the...

    Wood I.D......any ideas?

Hi Kym, I concur with the turning issues, I'm lucky to have got 1 & a 1/2 pen so far, it just splits, falls apart, fractures, disintegrates or explodes. Once I've finished the 2nd pen the remainder is being put in a dark corner until my patience returns!. I wouldn't say this is Irish Bog Oak but...

    Wood I.D......any ideas?

Neil, that's amazing info, thank you!. If I'm judging right then, this is big oak. It is horrendously fragile, terrible to turn & a crying shame now that my 6th pen blank has b****y exploded!!, I can imagine this wood as being very old, as it was covered in clay type mud I would assume it has...
