Hopefully this helps, simply put you have a standard open slot for the block with the dog in to slide backwards and forward, the next laminated piece of the bench (further inboard) also has a recess for the heavy screw to sit.

Hi technium, are you sure the rubber you mention on the wheel isn't just leather that's full of polishing compound? I have a tormek and at first sight it looks like rubber too. Maybe give it a scrape to check?
