If I remember correctly, shipping to the Netherlands was about 12 pounds at the time for a pair. Take

Holdfast Group Buy - May have found a UK Blacksmith

My pair arrived this weekend. Very nice! A tap on top and they hold, a tap on the side and they let go. On my bench the flat bit on the end doesn't sit flush on the workpiece but I've got a spacer in between anyway, so no marring of the wood being worked. Thanks Richard, Take

Holdfast Group Buy - May have found a UK Blacksmith

OK, I'd like a pair please. Let me know how much the total is, including shipping to the Netherlands, so I can PayPal it to you. Thanks for taking the trouble at the post office, and on pension day! Take Mmm, cider, remember that from my Leicester Uni days, can't get that here, apart from the...

Holdfast Group Buy - May have found a UK Blacksmith

Well if you're at the Post office anyway, could you enquire what it would cost to ship one or two pairs to The Netherlands? (If you are willing to do that, of course). I'd be much obliged. Take

Holdfast Group Buy - May have found a UK Blacksmith

Well, just got back from the holidays, if it's not too late, i'd be interested in a pair as well. BTW, in Woodworking magazine, autumn 2005, it is mentioned that the ideal angle between shaft and pad of a holdfast is supposedly about 83 degrees. Cheers, Take

I might have to give up on the Hayrake Table.

I take it you've seen the February 2009 issue of Popular woodworking, which features a 6-page article on a hayrake table by Don Weber. There's also a Sketchup model. Some pictures of his work in progress. Take

Any Way do sharpen a SurForm?

Well in Holland the small ones are popular for grating Parmesan cheese.

    Mortice chisel selection

I recently got three french Goldenberg oval handled pig stickers, 6, 8 and 10 mm. in one buy from a dutch old tools dealer (DucoTools) who'd apparently been on a trip to France recently, as he also had some Brunon mortice chisels (round handled) and a Peugeot oval handled one up for sale. I've...

    Bevel Up or Bevel Down?

xy, I'm thinking on my feet here :-k , but in your drawing there's no sideways component in the movement of the plane (marked "Path of Plane" in your drawing), thus no slicing. I think that the axis of the board, as far as slicing is concerned, is moot. As an academic exercise let's put the...

    Bevel Up or Bevel Down?

xy, Slicing implies a movement other than perpendicular to the edge. On a shooting board, ramped or not, the movement is strictly perpendicular to the edge (assuming the blade's edge is perpendicular to the side of the plane, which is usually the case, unless you happen to have a #51 :D ). Take

    Bevel Up or Bevel Down?

This might be nitpicking and I might have got it wrong, but doesn't skewing a plane mean changing the angle of the edge of the blade relative to the direction of travel of the plane in order to lower the effective bevel angle. On a ramped shooting board this doesn't happen, as the angle of the...

    spot of inspiration needed please

In this case a horizontal frame with a sheet on top and on the bottom, the one on top pushing and the one on the bottom pulling to fight the sag introduced by gravity. It gives approximately the same strength (or should that be stiffnes) as a solid of the same thickness but without the weight...
