    Restoration question

John/Dick, Lenghtwise the pen tray has the usual pieces underneath for it to rest on and pressure either end tips it up for removal. As I said, its warped end ways on looking at it in cross-section because its only veneered one side. Mick.

    Restoration question

I've just aquired a writing slope, possibly Victorian and in severe need of TLC. I'm fairly comfortable with most of the restoration needed, however, I have one question .... The pen tray is severely warped when viewed end on. It appears to be made of cedar and has been veneered with Walnut on...

    Lewin combination plane

Does anyone have any knowledge of the above ?? I was given one recently and its of no use to me, for anything of that nature I'd prefer to use the router or Dremel. It's in a wooden box, in pretty decent condition and has about 20 blades.

    Torches - Maglite or other??

I bought my first Maglite, a 5D, during the miners strike 26yrs ago. I recently returned it for a free service and most of the parts were replaced with new. Sorry, I can't fault Maglite. Duracell batteries are for nothing on Ebay.

    History Lesson ?

Lons, Don't know your source but I think its more fiction than not. One for the road, On the waggon and falling off the waggon all refer to the Temperence Society movement of the mid 19th Century when women wanted to stop men drinking and went out on payday to scoop the drunks up in a waggon...

    Traps.

Roy, I haven't suggested or implied that I would despatch any of them any differently. A rifle used correctly whould be immediate as would a 4x4. I couldn't imagine using a trap and then deciding whether I should beat it to death with a stick after it was caught ? Or what else to do with it...

    Traps.

Roy, no offence taken feller. If I had occasion to dispatch any of the aforementioned creatures (some of which I believe are classed as vermin) my choice would be the rifle for a quick finish. But I suspect my 4x4 would give a fox just as quick an end. My own preference, I wouldn't use a trap...

    Traps.

When my boys were little they wanted a rabbit, I bought one, and as kids do, they lost interest and my wife took on the responsibility. She was gutted one day to find a fox had broken into the hutch and eaten its head. If I was driving down the road and saw a fox I'd do my best not to miss it...

    Aldi.

I bought this set today just on the chance I might need to use them. I have an assortment of taps and dies from the old days but no metric and have used a lot of metric bolts recently building the bench in the garage and reinforcing the garage doors against unwanted visitors. When I got the...

    Camera tripod for a walker

Dick, I have 2 monopods and a professional tripod. Over the hundreds of wedding I photographed for friends I used the tripod twice, always prefered the monopod. Haven't used the tripod since I went digital, but always take one of the monopods with me nowadays.
