    Whittling

Cheers lads, found a few interesting pieces on the net using some of your search tips. Some nice ideas out there, could take me a while to get the competence of techniques needed to produce the work to a good standard though. Never the less, I figure the best way to learn is to actually have a...

    Whittling

Hi folks, Wasn't sure what section to put this one in, but here goes. I've just started to have a little look at the world of whittling. The missus suggested it to me and it sounded even more appealing when she pointed out the raw material was free! :o   I've had a bit of a...

Rat Poison - a lucky escape and a plea....

You can't beat a good ratting session with an air rifle, or a Jack Russell come to that. The only problem being is it can only ever be a bit of sport using these methods. The rate at which they breed is phenomenal, so the few you manage to get are of little consequence.

    High Chair Construction Queries

Here is another design, one I've considered adapting and building myself. One thing I haven't seen on any of these high chairs is any type of padding on the seat. All the seat pieces are flat as well, could lead to numb bum syndrome and an unhappy baby.

How do they do that then?

I was watching a couple vids on you tube the other day from Egale Woodworking, a yankee workshop. The guy there was gluing pieces flat together then using a broard belt sanding machine to get a uniform thickness.

    High Chair Construction Queries

I agree with Tim and Dave, I'd be worried about the kids trying to climb up the back too. However I think the idea of using drawer slides on the tray is fantastic, are you going to use some sort of pin to lock the tray off for feeding? Are you going to install a strap or seat belt system to...

    Whoopy Hardwood at last!

Thanks for that Martin, very handy to know. Is this problem unique to oak or are other species of wood affected in a similar way?

    Whoopy Hardwood at last!

Hi Mailee, The project's looking fantastic, a beautiful wood to use. I know this may sound a bit stupid, but I'm still learning so humour me please. Why shouldn't you use steel hardware with oak?

    mitre saw

I recently changed the blade on my mitre saw. I had some difficulty replacing the guard and thought ahh...blow it. I made one cut with it and scared my self witless when my hand came dangerously close to the rapidly rotating blade, when removing the wood. That was enough for me, I spent a...

    Timber choice for workbench top.

I used to work designing / planing kitchens and 50mm worktops where considered the dogs what's it's. Karl's suggestion of using Iroko is interesting, it's a beautiful wood and very durable. The size and colour scheme of your kitchen though should be taken into consideration. Beech or Iroko...
