British wooden moulding, bench and stop planes and their mak

Hi Andy, Good to hear from you. Yes, I agree Facebook is not everyone's cup of tea including mine until very recently when I finally submitted to its claw like grip when I used it to set up a business page. I wanted somewhere to discuss these planes without the thread getting lost and without...

British wooden moulding, bench and stop planes and their mak

I haven't posted on here for a long time due to work, kids and other commitments but would like to draw attention to this group on Facebook. I hope this is allowed as it doesn't really detract from the work and discussions on here but understand if not. I've set up a Facebook page for those...

    W. Greenslade Badger plane

Hi Keith, As Andy says, it has to have been made between 1890 and 1940. Maybe the plane iron (if it's original) will help you narrow it down to a more precise date. And as JohnPW has mentioned, it is in fact made of beech as most British wooden planes were. The Greenslade's were brushmakers...

First impressions of the Clifton block plane

What a beautiful plane! I like the fact it's of a large weight and size, my hands are pretty big (carney hands, as one of my friends delicately puts it) so I find some of the smaller block planes a bit fiddly.

British Furniture and Joinery courses you'd recommend.

I'm not in work today but I'll get you the info on furniture making courses tomorrow.

British Furniture and Joinery courses you'd recommend.

Yes Gary is still head of Furniture Making at COBC. Clive left at the end of the last academic year though (or was it the one before that?). I'm not sure they would be able to meet Dovetail Dave's criteria of short courses though as their courses are all at least a year long.

macmillan charity workshop open day 2015

I had an amazing time! Thank you Richard for the Holbrook moulding plane and thank you Kate for the tea and cakes! It was a pleasure to see Bill Carter and Ollie's planes and to see Andy Toolntat's scroll saw in action! And a big thank you to Andy T for driving! See you all next year! :D

probably the most expensive shoulder plane in the world?

The seller mentions that the plane came from a family of shipwrights based in Portsmouth. If that's Portsmouth, Hants then, as I understand it, all the seller has to write on the package is "repatriated goods" and all import duties are waived, as import tax has already been paid in the other...

"I C" mark on 18th century moulding planes

Thanks for that Corneel. Maybe I'm reading too much into something that could be just the initials of various joiners around England during the 18th Century! :?

"I C" mark on 18th century moulding planes

Hi Droogs, That is fascinating! If only you could remember where you found that information! I'll have a dig and see what I can come up with.... Thanks.
