    Simple & Fast Gifts?

How would you glue the sides? Just mitre joints around? Never thought of making a simple box. Whenever I've tackled a box it's been a saga.

    Simple & Fast Gifts?

Hi all. I've finally got all tools transferred to the new place (90% hand tools) and am looking to put them to use. A friend has a birthday in a few days and I thought it'd be nice to put something together for her. Any ideas? I'm not very good at this woodwork lark, really, so the easier the...

    Good whittling knife?

I have a Mora knife that I use to knock up little gifts. Brilliant knives: absolutely tough as nails and keep a good edge.

How to use a ceramic flattening stone???

I've some waterstones that have been quite abused, but I'm sure there's still life left in 'em. I've picked up an Ice Bear ceramic stone to flatten them out, but wondering if there's a particular technique I should be using?

    Ebay fools

I don't know why people don't take the time to check the prices of these things out in regular shops. I was looking at some photographic equipment and noticed a lot of B&W photographic paper. Upon further inspection I noticed I could buy the same thing for a pound or two more than the current...

    Japanese Saws vs. Western Saws

I'm still very much a beginner and use virtually nothing but fairly cheap Jap saws. For the novice who has very little idea about how to sharpen and set-up a Western saw, they're perfect: razor-sharp, can be used without set-up, and leave a thin, clean cut. They do have drawbacks--teeth break...

    Pyrography?

Hi, all. I'm making a box as a little wedding gift for a friend. I was thinking it would be nice to include their names or initials on the top, and thought pyrography might be an attractive option. I was wondering if it's possible to use a standard soldering iron or similar?

    Interesting birdhouses?

It's funny. Those amazing birdhouses were exactly what came to mind when she first suggested it. Possibly a bit out of my league even if I could persuade my dad to remove 3/4 of his garden to accomodate it!

Strangely built coffee table reduced in size.

I've just seem this. That is absoutely horrific! I've been putting off making a table as I thought I wouldn't be able to do it: now I've seen that it can always be worse!

    Interesting birdhouses?

I've promised my mam I'm going to make her a birdbox/house and I wanted to do something a bit different, but I'm not really sure what. Does anyone have any ideas or plans for a fairly simple but 'different' birdhouse?

    Little Project: Tea Tray

That's right. The cuts looked a bit ragged and I cleaned them up a little with a few strokes of sandpaper, but once the splines were glued in and cleaned up with a block plane they looked good. I think the trick is to cut the keys so they're a good tight fit in the slot.

    Little Project: Tea Tray

You're probably right, but it's nice to show the missus something that doesn't make her go, 'So, you've spent all this money on tools to make something to hold all your tools?' DaveL: I've applied 3 coats of tough polyurathane, but even that, I suspect, may not be enough. I'll see how it goes...

    Little Project: Tea Tray

Hi, folks! It's not very impressive, but it's nice to get something practical under my belt. It's a tea tray for carrying stuff to and from the kitchen. The sides are B&Q banana pine which I rounded over with the router. The bottom is el cheapo ply set into a groove which I cut using a...

Is this worthy of a Gloat

I think I have a 13-052 manual if Andy has any problems. I must admit, it's not exactly one of my favourite planes...

    At LONG Last

It's funny how many people tend to say that: not just on here but elsewhere on the web.
