Ah yes, I wish I'd thought of that before I did the carving. Thanks

    finish for CNC carving

Hi I've made a box out of a dark hardwood (possibly mahogony) and I've used the CNC machine to carve a fairly elaborate design into it. I want to find a way to make the carving stand out, by being either darker or lighter than the surrounding wood. I might stain the main wood darker, so I guess...

    Axminster planer/thicknesser AW106PT2 - not starting

Thank you. Sadly it says almost nothing about the electrical side of things although it does contain this nice deadpan line about maintenance: "Now is a very good time to clean the slot housings thoroughly, remove the resin build-up, sawdust, chips and any old joiners/carpenters etc."

    Axminster planer/thicknesser AW106PT2 - not starting

Hi Today my AW106PT2 wouldn't start. Or at least I think it started for a microsecond then cut out. Things I've checked: 13A plug fuse is OK and the wiring as far as the machine is OK. Cable undamaged. I know there are microswitches to ensure the tables and dust extraction are in place - I...

I use designspark mechanical (free) for designing, meshcam for generating the gcode, and linuxcnc for controlling the machine.

    Axminster AW106PT tables problem

So - all sorted, I think. The pins came out fairly easily, and then I realised that even though you can't change the height on one side, you can change the angle of each table, thanks to the eccentric nuts next to the pins. The height adjustment bolts on the other side then let you get the...

    Axminster AW106PT tables problem

Luckily the insurers paid out and so I’ve been able to replace a lot of rubbish hobby machines with old trade ones (which, however, bring their own problems…)

    Axminster AW106PT tables problem

Agreed. I lost everything in a fire 6 months ago including my straight edge and the level is all I have to hand right now.

Ah, thank you so much. A mine of information! Though I might need to get back to you ...

    Axminster AW106PT tables problem

Thanks for the advice. When I was trying to move it (on my own) it fell over a couple of times (it weighs 150kg so not lightweight in my book! and very top heavy) and something might have got knocked out of true. But I can't see that anything is actually bent, which is good. Am I right in...

    Axminster AW106PT tables problem

Hi Just trying to get my (second hand) Axminster AW106PT set up properly and am having difficulty with the planer tables. As I understand it, the infeed and outfeed tables are supposed to be coplanar, i.e. both should be parallel with the floor, except that the outfeed table should be...

    Yes that makes sense

    Axminster planer/thicknesser AW106PT2

Sorted - damaged power cord. Something probably happened in the move

    Axminster planer/thicknesser AW106PT2

Thanks, I didn't know about those switches. But I've tried it in both configurations and nothing doing. It's a bit odd that it ran for a fraction of a second before cutting out - it does seem to point towards something tripping inside.
