    Surface Planer

Are these any good? I assumed the Silverline / Rutlands 1800w planers were rubbish as a lot of the reviews say tables are not flat and it breaks down. my only experience of Silverline tools was my biscuit jointer which I had to replace the first one as it worked once and then broke. But I...

    Surface Planer

6inch will be enough for now. I am mainly making chopping boards. I will move onto other things but i cant imagine needing to plane stuff bigger than 6 inches any time soon. Yeah I had seen the SIP one that but they said they didn't have any left and its discontinued :-( Not seen many yet and...

    Surface Planer

Thanks for the insight. my thicknesser is a jet one and does what I need it to so happy with that and I prefer the idea of not having to alter bits on a machine to swap jobs. I will keep an eye out for cast iron although with lockdown second hand items are difficult to see/get. I was offered a...

    Surface Planer

Hi All, I am looking to buy a surface planer to help me make better chopping boards. (currently using a jig on table saw but there are many times it doesn't work or I can use due to the wood dimensions) I already have a dedicated thicknesser so I was thinking of just getting a planer but I can...

New Table Saw or New Fence System

I haven't tried that as i wasn't sure if the whole thing would fall apart of i took the end off...... I imagine it wouldn't be very stable as there look to be just one point of contact on the main end. I am next in the workshop on Wednesday so i could try taking the end off and see what happens.

New Table Saw or New Fence System

I think it is beyond help, but i will take some pics tomorrow and post them on here. @ Do you need a good Tap and Die set as well? I do have a pillar drill (not the best) but it should do the trick. I don't have a tap and die set but there are cheap ones on Flebay would they do? Thanks again

New Table Saw or New Fence System

Thanks all for your replys. @Bodgers. I think is Cast Iron as it is very heavy and it is magnetic. @Trevanion. The fact it looked the the Wadkin AGS type fence was what drew me to it in the beginning as i thought it would be a good fence. It cuts well enough for my needs and at the moment its...

New Table Saw or New Fence System

Hi All, I currently have a oldish Cast Iron Sealy SM37 10" table saw with a custom fence (not made by me). Its clamps at both ends on steel tubes. It is very rigid which is good. The saw itself cuts ok (struggles with thicker bits) The problem i am having is that the fence is never square...

    Dust extraction vacuum selection

Thanks for the responses, I forgot to say I have a Cylone thing hooked up so the big stuff doesn't go to the vac, hadn't though of having it vented to go outside that's a great idea. will the 2hp chip extractors be enough or am I best to ditch the ducting? There also seems to be a fox model...
