    birch plywood query

It’s not really a failure to spec, I bought a set of boards advertised as bb/bb? 150 a sheet also at those quantities isn’t a suspiciously low price I’d suggest…fair enough if it’s a common practice, never seen it before when it comes to birch mind.

    birch plywood query

Hi guys, Am working on a job currently with a lot of 18mm birch plywood - ordered from a new supplier at £150/sheet. Arrived a while ago and was very impressed with the faces, and in fact had 'artisan birch b/bb' stamped on the side when i ordered bb/bb (i thought that the higher grade was...

    kitchen query

there are no studs unfortunately, it is an insulated plasterboard panel, fixed via adhesive dabs back to the external wall - it performs better thermally this way but presents difficulties when fixing

    kitchen query

Hi guys, I'm currently designing and buillding kitchen and one of the wall runs is against a wall with insulted plasterboard, around 80mm i believe. I've never had to hang anything off it before so am a little unsure the best way of hanging potentially heavy kitchen wall units from it. I have...

Bit unsure of best way of proceeding - cut new hinge locations and fill and paint over existing or try and repair using filler and re-use existing hinge rebates? I...

    floating shelves in awkward alcoves

Hi all, Have got a job coming up that requires floating shelves in 2 alcoves. One of them has walls splaying outwards away from finished face (so won't be able to push onto battens fixed to walls as I would normally do). On the other side theres a wall nib which is not perpendicular to the wall...

    long span alcove shelf design

Thanks for this, briilliant reply. As it happens i've got some 4mm mr mdf in stock, do you reckon this might be too thin or should be ok if frame is adequately spaced? great tips with hot glue, was thinking of glueing up 5 to 10mm oversize then finishing to exact dim on the table saw.

    long span alcove shelf design

Thanks for replies, have seen sagulator but not sure if it helps with predicting how a torsion box might react?

    long span alcove shelf design

Hi all, have an alcove unit project coming up and the design has particularly long spanning shelves (approx 2m). They are 270mm deep. (drawing attached). Is likely to be loaded with books and potentially ornaments. Am slightly concerned about sagging over this distance…the current proposed...
