To template or not to template?

Thanks for your replies. Roy, those instructions are just what I needed. :D

To template or not to template?

I'm in the process of making a jewellery box for the wife and have bought a pair of Brusso Quadrant hinges. Purchased from Rutlands (arrived next day) who also have the router template for these available. Never fitted quadrants before so don't know how easy it will be in real terms. Should I...

    Rutland Clearance

If Festool's exclusivity policy is anything to go by, they are probably working on a range of highly expensive vacuum clamping bags that are only compatible with the unit and the unit won't accept any other bags at all, ever. Me, cynical? Nah!

Avoid ALL Screwfix branded products - EDITED

I've had a couple of one job power tools (planer and angle grinder) from Aldi and have to say that as they were bought as such I was impressed by the quality and perfoermance. But, as has been said already, in most cases, you get what you pay for.

    Power tools

I agree that a good book on the subject and some decent marking and measuring tools are essential first purchases. I started off with cheap power tools and found that by buying quality accessories such as higher performance router cutters and better quality saw blades, it didn't matter so much...

    Fein E-cut blades

I have the fein too and it seems that the only way to save any money on these blades is to bulk buy.

Bench grinder selection & dressing tool use

I have a diamond dressing tool for my bench grinder, but it's got a square edge instead of a point. Can't for the life of me remember where I got it, but it's much easier to control than the single point type and much quicker to use.

    Rutland Clearance

Not so. I just bought a Dewalt dovetail jig and a Festool TDK 12V drill and saved myself a cool £150! I asked the lad on the phone if these were one off items and he told me they had plenty of stock with more items being added today.

    Pocket Hole Jig - Dakota @ £39 (reduced from £59) v. Kreg

I agree with Simon. I've used my mate's dakota pocket hole jig a couple of times now and it really does a good job. Its easy to set up, accurate and clamps firmly. If you can get a tool that works well for £40 why not save your self £60 for the January sales?

    Anant and the credit crunch

I've got a couple of Anant planes and, admittedly, they both needed a little work on them straight out of the box. I gave the blade a good honing and did a small amount of fettling but thats all. When I consider the price I paid for them and cost of my time to tune them up, I've got two really...

    Rutlands Cabinet Hardware

Thanks Guys. To be honest, I've been lurking for so long, I don't feel like a newbie. Not sure about binning all those DVDs and CDs though, I wouldn't know which recycling bin to put them all in :D

    Rutlands Cabinet Hardware

I got this catalogue too. The wife spotted the CD and DVD racks. She's always banging on about wanting "a place for everything and everything in its place". Looks like SWMBO has just found me my next project... :?
