    Lathe making funny noise

    Jim, If I were a betting man, I'd bet you need a new set of bearings. I say "set" since if you are going to change one you might as well do both. Have you tried disengaging the belt and spinning the spindle shaft by hand yet? If you can here clicking while doing this it is probably time for new.

    I'd take some off your hands, but it be mighty long trip. This was felled in the middle of summer, turned a couple weeks later. A wonderful wood to work with.

    Nova 1624-44 Pulley Allignment Problem

    Just a heads up.... This is a common problem with the nova 1642 around here. I know of 3 guys that had the same problem. It seems that the grub screw backs out a bit over time and the pulley slips the shaft a bit. The easiest fix would be to drill and tap another hole on the opposite side...

    LoL, I have that size laying around all over the place. You've peeked my curiosity, I'll go try it and see how the fit is. Edit: Ok, back from the shop. The 17/64th bit does allow you to put the 7mm pen tube in, however; it is a really snug fit. So snug I would think the only glue to use...

    Sanding arbors

    Here's one for when you are desperate. Take any cheap sanding arbor and rough up the surface with some abrasive. Cut a pad from a can koozie to the size you need. Epoxy pad to arbor and then some self adhesive hook and loop, or you can just spray adhesive your sand paper to the pad. Works...

    Walnut oil

    On the this side of the pond Mahoney's Walnut oil is the walnut oil to be had. bowlmakerinc(dot)com/finishes It will usually harden in the wood within a week for me. At that point it is a nice satin finish, but occasionally I'll take it through the buffer to bring up more...
