    Joke Thread 4

Continuous re-runs and repeats maybe? Or would that never happen these days? :) Put the brakes on, back to track one of the playlist :) That could play havoc if the satnav was integral, you'd never get where you wanted to go, you would keep going back to the beginning :) And, if it was an...

    Hi. Theatre set builder here

I also spent my formative woodworking years building scenery. Flats held at the corners with wriggle pins (corrugated nails), covered with hardboard triangles glued and pinned in place. Canvas stretched and stapled and then glued. Happy days.

table saws and plunge saw (with guide rails tracks) advice/recommendations...

Whilst I agree that a track saw and track on it's own will have difficulty doing this, I built a nice simple jig that allowed me to cut very thin strips (2mm thick) off of the edge of boards / 2×4's etc. Photos below. In this case I used the DW rail. The two screws can be used for micro...

    Coloured epoxy - Small amounts

I recently mixed some black ink in to some epoxy for repairing a pair of glasses. Repair is still holding, so can't have been that bad.

    Saw blade escapes from captivity

Saw this on Auntie Beeb's website, they said it was from a concrete saw.

Surely a huge gap in the market?

Maybe I am missing something here, but couldn't you satisfy your requirements with a track saw and a router with some guide bushes, and a few decent fixtures? 50mm thick, and as wide as you like will be cut by a track saw. You can use the track saw for jointing edges. You can use the router with...

    Live edge mirror question

rebates in the frame were the way I did the last one that I made. I did it in two level, as there was a plywood sheet used to link the top and bottom rails.

    Battery compatibility

Speaking for the company I work for, we have multiple sites worldwide (including the one here) that make our battery packs. Not all of them are produced in every site, that depends more on overall demand in given markets. I can say that A LOT of work goes in to developing our packs, as well as...

    Large garden planter design

I made these, based around a 40cm by 40cm tub. I put cross braces in the bottom so that the tub base was not visible. The cross pieces are a shallow mortise, no glue, just pocket screws so they can be disassembled in case you need to. (I also put a small solar powered fountain in one instead of...

Eggbeater drills without heavy metal paint?

I know that you specify egg beater style of drill, and an issue with cadmium and lead. Two things spring to mind. 1. If you get a new one, from Europe, then lead and cadmium will not be an issue, as these have been illegal in any hazardous quantity for many years. Cadmium is still allowed on...

    It never happens in Europe!

Similar thing in Czech, roads are salted and gritted in advance, farmers have plough attachments for their tractors that they use to help out the villages nearby. The road up the hill I live on has two or three bags of salt/grit put on the verge every year. Same with the insurance not paying if...

    Riving knife thickness

For what it's worth, the safety standards (admittedly from 2-5 which is for hand held circular saws including track saws) call for a riving knife to be thicker than the plate, but thinner than the kerf.

    Questionable circular saw adaptation

I have the festool one (and the rail). It can be used for breaking smallish logs down in to planks. You do have to nip the bottom inch off the riving knife for it to work well though.
