    Live edge mirror question

rebates in the frame were the way I did the last one that I made. I did it in two level, as there was a plywood sheet used to link the top and bottom rails.

    Battery compatibility

Speaking for the company I work for, we have multiple sites worldwide (including the one here) that make our battery packs. Not all of them are produced in every site, that depends more on overall demand in given markets. I can say that A LOT of work goes in to developing our packs, as well as...

    Large garden planter design

I made these, based around a 40cm by 40cm tub. I put cross braces in the bottom so that the tub base was not visible. The cross pieces are a shallow mortise, no glue, just pocket screws so they can be disassembled in case you need to. (I also put a small solar powered fountain in one instead of...

Eggbeater drills without heavy metal paint?

I know that you specify egg beater style of drill, and an issue with cadmium and lead. Two things spring to mind. 1. If you get a new one, from Europe, then lead and cadmium will not be an issue, as these have been illegal in any hazardous quantity for many years. Cadmium is still allowed on...

    It never happens in Europe!

Similar thing in Czech, roads are salted and gritted in advance, farmers have plough attachments for their tractors that they use to help out the villages nearby. The road up the hill I live on has two or three bags of salt/grit put on the verge every year. Same with the insurance not paying if...

    Riving knife thickness

For what it's worth, the safety standards (admittedly from 2-5 which is for hand held circular saws including track saws) call for a riving knife to be thicker than the plate, but thinner than the kerf.

    Questionable circular saw adaptation

I have the festool one (and the rail). It can be used for breaking smallish logs down in to planks. You do have to nip the bottom inch off the riving knife for it to work well though.

    Show your sheds

12 foot by 11 foot. Not cleaned at all before taking the pictures :)

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Made these from a single board for us, and have since sold them and bought two more boards.... Also had a request from a local charity for a few of the left hand one for their next christmas market. Hope I will be able to find the time....

    Bench vise orientation

Plus one for a full width vice on the end. Clap an L shape in it away from the bench front and you have a crotch. Clamp it flush to the front and above the bench top and you have two supporting sides for all sorts of uses (I won't list them, it takes too long). Clamp a hand screw in and have a...

    Threaded pipe

I would also say trying B&Q or plumbase (is that right? Been a while since I crossed the channel). Take one of the heads with you, find their pipe area, check the fit with a short piece. I got all of my pipe clamp heads from Home Depot during various visits to the US, and I buy all my pipe in...

    Your most useful clamps

I have a few Extol clamps where both the ends are free to move. I find these far more useful than the F clamps with one end fixed. The head is reasonably large and the flange/infill at the bottom of the pad is a little bit flexible, so useful for clamping over a slightly proud tail for example...

Need suggestions: garden furniture for my new home

I also built some planters that were sized to a convenient large pot, and they have simple bench seats that link them. Very nice if you just want to sit between the roses. Again, all softwood, all seasons exposure. I even put a small solar powered fountain in one. If you find a simple design...

Need suggestions: garden furniture for my new home

Why buy? Why not make? I have made chairs, benches, tables out of cheap wood / reclaimed pallets etc. I have no expectation of them lasting a lifetime, but the first ones I made have lasted 8 central european years so far with no finish on. (They currently have six inches of snow on them :) )

    Bloody cold shed!

Can you not repurpose a caravan heater? The one in my wife's 'van can run on 230, 12V and gas. Just a thought.

    Vintage drawing set. . .

Can you maybe make the lining process a bit easier by cutting the insert pieces out in several sections, velveting (is that a word?) them, but leaving some free space on the underside, then lining the bottom of the box, cutting away a few small areas that you can then glue the inserts to? I am...

Wanted Dovetail guide wanted - Katz Moses or similar

No need for that. Use them to mark the lines, then saw. They are really only for marking out the guide line. If you don't follow it exactly, that's OK. Just as long as you are cutting square on the top, it will all work out. There are multiple different videos and methods out there, but they ALL...

Wanted Dovetail guide wanted - Katz Moses or similar

I made mine from a bit of angle aluminium. Work perfectly well, and you can make other ratios as needed, as well as making the guides for mitered dovetails, saddle squares etc. All you need is a protractor, a hack saw and something to smooth the edges with. You can also make them at different...

    Woodworkers' Guild of America

I find the Popular Woodworking site quite good. If you accept their mail shots then you occasionally get free plan offers. (I got 5 over the course of Covid). They also offer a digital only membership that I will try over the Christmas break (gives me enough time to scour the site for all the...
