Hi,

Does anyone know where you would get a nice big wooden vice screw and nut in the UK? I can only find them in the US. I'm checking benches on eBay that might have salvageable bits on.

Something like the lake Erie tool works screws in the US

I haven't got the tooling or skills to even attempt to try to make one! It'd be funny to see how it'd turn out, though! You'd probably need a 12ft handle to get it to turn.

@SteL did you go down the import route from 'dictum'? Or did you find another supplier. Currently in the same boat that I want a wood vice screw for my workbench and struggling to find one.
 
Hi @Fitzroy, Yes, I bought it from Dictum - the Lake Erie Toolworks one. I Just had the issue of seasonal movement the first year where the vice was binding, but it was easily fixed with pumice powder. Finding a good second hand one is tough. Typically since I bought it I seem to see them everywhere!
