Bowl This is Beech, the blamk promised it was spalted, but I couldn't see any, nice figure though.

Bowl as Art? This was Burr Elm (I think) and there was a huge burr (I think that's what it would be called) where the hole is now. It was looking like a nice shaped bowl until the burr flew over my shoulder, but I decided to carry on, as I thought it looked good.

Actually did that last one a while ago but decided to let it loose ;)
 
very nice bowls! I love the burr. lovely figuring in the wood! I am sure most will think it far too thick. but I am a fan of 'chunky' wood. .. and arty pieces. :D
 
Nice pieces,Dave - like the shapes and styles,as well as the timbers.
I think your beech is spalted - you don't always get the black lines,sometimes it just has different coloured areas (I believe this is what you have,rather than a sapwood/heartwood contrast like your yew goblet)
And I agree with Mrs.S - the chunky look suits the burr bowl :D
