Ok so its Red Nose Day - they keep saying that £34 can do two cataract operations on an african adult giving them their sight back. They go into a clinic have it done and walk away with their sight

If thats the case why does it cost so much for our own OAPs in this country and why do they have to wait months and months for operation.

Sorry about that

My 90yr old Mother and 89 yr old Mother-in-law only had to wait a few weeks and it cost them nothing.

Sorry I should have said why does it cost so much for the NHS - Not the individual?

From what I can find it costs the NHS around £1000.
Given the fees of doctors, nurses and other staff, hospital charges etc here and that over there you're likely to have fewer staff involved with far lower salaries and hospital charges then I don't find the difference so surprising.
