As stated in the Title I am looking for a Fence rod for a Record no 78. Other brands don`t fit as they have different threads.

Do you have a dimensioned drawing of it? It looks fairly simple to make. The biggest challenge, if you are not au fait in that department, would be identifying the threads.

Helped with a workshop clearance today for a friend whose father had passed away and found a 78 fence with the Rod on it but didnt find the actual plane - When I sort through the boxes I brought away on monday I will check it fits in my own 78 and let you know

Ok, Thank you.

About a year ago I found the dimensions but I can`t find them at the moment.

I don`t think it will fit my 78, it has to have a threaded end, a 778 bar looks like the type you would find on a plough plane, ie not threaded.
What about this one then??

I have managed to locate my 78, a dial gauge and a thread gauge a miracle given the tip that is my workshop.
The provisional sizes are: 75 mm long, 7.95mm dia, Thread 6.2mm dia, 9.5 mm long and 26 TPI WW.

I say provisional as I am not feeling 100% today. I was going to post that I had found a 50, a 49 and a 78 but no ?? then thought hang on what isn't it a 78 bar that is wanted and had to check!

I`ve just found the dimensions for the fence arm....
Record 078 fence rod screw thread - 1/4 x 26 tpi (BSF)

Would that be a Record one? If so is it spare?

In the original units system in which the plane was made, that would be 3" nominal long, 5/16" diameter and 3/8" length of 1/4" - 26 BSF thread.

For the unthreaded end of the rod, I guess a slight dome shape would look better than a square end.
