Not much out there in the field today...as seems typical for most weekends this year...but a few nice things to be had for the budget...

DSC_2658.JPG

I'm pretty chuffed with the handles...been looking for these for a tool cabinet for ages!

DSC_2652.JPG

...only £2 for the four...and the guy threw in the rather old punch for free!

DSC_2653.JPG

...should prove handy for some peining I need to do soon!

The "PUSH" plate is really old...enamelled lettering and solid cast bronze/brass (don't know yet!)....

DSC_2654.JPG

Got to be worth a quid of anyone's money!

Moore and Wright....can't resist that name...

DSC_2651.JPG

...especially on a working micrometer...even the ratchet works!

The hone is a fine one indeed...I think it could be a medium grit Japanese waterstone...

DSC_2655.JPG

It's definitely a waterstone...makes a fine slurry with my Nagura...only 50p...so will test it out anyway. Covered in oil as usual! ...but I'm getting used to purging these by now!

Four (the other one under test!) Honeywell microswitches...all permutations of NO/NC and £1 the lot...for my lathe emergency stops...

DSC_2656.JPG

It's really amazing how 14tpi screwcutting fair whizzes the apron along...just caught it in time before it careered into the chuck!

And finally....one of these...

DSC_2657.JPG

Don't ask!!! Only 50p though!

That's it for today...not a chisel/saw/infill plane....in sight! :(

What did you get this weekend?

Nice little haul, Jimi.

What do you mean, "don't ask"? - What the **** is it!?!

What did I get? - No tools, but an early start to undercoat the porch repair, then in to supervise my son making some bread he'd watch on Great British Bake-off - An eight-pleat loaf!! - He likes a challenge. If it comes out OK I'll post up a photo.

Cheers

Greg

I love making bread , and eating the nobbies with butter ,

Then ( Not the same day ) thick cut slices toasted with peanut butter

Looking forward to the photos , I can almost smell it now :D

Boot Sale , S-d all for weeks :? Still I will go tomorrow

HA! You guys are mad!!!

Strangely...Annie came straight back started making bread...she used to be second chef at the 5 Star..Rising Sun Hotel in St Mawes where daily breadmaking was part of her job....so we get fresh bread rolls and loaves a-plenty here. I am trying to get her to make some anchovy toast and plum cake...which I read about in a Poirot story...sounds divine!!!

I wish your son luck with the loaf....let's see them pictures soon!

And....I have absolutely NO idea what the counter thing is...it's by PARKER's of LONDON...model DIGITAL.T and has an LED display and thumb setting 0-999 and push button. I'm sure I'll find a use for it one day...

That's really most kind of you Pete...I may very well take you up on your offer when I eventually get around to the workshop refurb....

Planning is going on over winter with a possible start in April 2013....but you know what plans are for!!!

Hi, Chaps

I got 4 moulding planes a Moore and Wright combination square a 2 inch auger and a couple of small bits as well.

Pics to follow

Them we had to go out to my sister-in -laws she gave me a big bag full of tools her ex left in the garage some good, 12" Bacho adjustable, good screw drivers used to stir paint and never cleaned, quite a bit of dross, need a good sort out, over the bin probbaly.

Pete

Blimey Pete - sounds good.

We went today, and while not the most woodworky, got quite a bit.

A mortar mixing plastic thingy (at the back), two Carver bar clamps 24", a brickie's trowel by Brades, a mean looking milling cutter, two more big toolmakers' clamps, a de-speeder chuck, a slimline brick cleaning chisel and a soldering assistant for jewellery work.

A sheepskin polishing mop with spare mop and ...

...a digital caliper. This means I have exclusive dibbs on the M+W dial caliper we bought last year. :)

Hi Eric

I will take a picture of the rear connector tomorrow....I think it is a counter too...

Pete...looking forward to the pictures mate...some interesting sounding stuff there!

Richard...nice collection of bits...tell me about the jewellery steady...I always thought those things were scribes for use on engineering surface plates to accurately mark a line across an object parallel to the surface side...but what do I know!

I have almost the same digital caliper...mine from Maplin's sale many moons ago....and I checked it with a Helios dial caliper this morning and it is spot on...no so the M&W micrometer though! Have to adjust that tomorrow!

Greg...you son's loaf is absolutely BRILLIANT! I showed Annie and she said WOW...that is amazing...he will go far...and she should know!

I simply love the look of pride on his face and so he should be! Bravo young man! =D> =D> =D>

Eight pleats ..... I can't imagine how to do that, and I did tie a 'monkeys' fist' once .. allbeit in rope, not dough and I had The Ashley Book of Knots to follow and I couldn't eat it afterwards .... Well done !

Jim - the scribe was in one of the bargain buckets as it is a bit more than surface rusted. I think it will be very useful to hold down very small pieces of silver to be soldered to rings. We tried wiring them with very little success last time. We'll see.

The Moore & Wright combi square is very nice and it was only £1
I paid £13 in total for the 4 planes and £2 for the bits.
I have given the planes a wipe over with Linseed oil and sharpened them they all work very well.
Every piece of wood in the workshop seems to have some form of moulding on, don't know how that happens

Nice to see some good hauls this week, I suppose by the law of averages we had to get a couple of good weather weekends!

So, Saturday for me this week yielded a wooden plane thingy; not really my thing, but it looked sad; the pic is after I had taken the Mathieson iron out to de-rust. It appears to be a skew rebate type of jobby, no name though

020-1.jpg

Nice and old Brown and Sharpe No.15 Micrometer, 1884 patent date, again, I got carried away before I got the camera out

019-2.jpg

Two gouges, the larger (1 inch-ish) an Ibbotson, the smaller a Hildick

018-2.jpg

Finally a 40 inch (!!!) long vernier caliper. Beast!

016-2.jpg

£7 spent in total, faith in car boot sales restored!

When Jim started this thread, I was quite reassured by the report of 'no tools' and could feel happy at enjoying a Sunday morning lie-in. But the rest of you have gone and spoiled that feeling! What is it that makes someone think 'the best way I can make money from these old tools is to offer them for pennies to whatever odd bods will wander round a field before dawn'?!!

Pete, I especially like your 'little and large' pic - have you managed to drill a hole with that beast yet?

Still, I shall have some nice eBay bargains to share photos of in the next few days.
