    sandpaper

I have always used aluminium oxide Production paper from Halfords (for sanding filler on car bodies) & wet & dry, Production paper lasts as long if not longer than anything I have ever used.

New Pillar Drill - Advice Requested Please

Hi, Using a morticing attachment on a pillar drill can be quite brutal & may damage the machine. I bought a cheap cross vice & mortise cutters & they do the job admirably, without any strain on the pillar drill. As the cross vice moves in two directions it is extremely accurate. Davyboy.

    Denford Viceroy Lathe Problem

I would not recommend trying to use a RH thread chuck on a LH thread outboard spindle under ANY circumstances, with or without Loctite or locking screws, it's a serious accident waiting to happen!!! Obtain a chuck with the correct LH thread & that will solve the problem permanently!!!

    Sorby modular toolrest

It's very likely to be m12, but as Blister says, check with Robert Sorby. I have a 3/4" & a 1/2" set but couldn't be sure about the thread

image of new lathe in my hobit sized shed!!

My shed is 8' x6' & you would not believe what I have been able to cram in there & still have room to work, (just) as you say, all small scale of course as I only make models now. Carbatec lathe, Nova Mercury lathe, two pillar drills, one of which is a miniature, two tiny bandsaws, two bench...

    Vibrosaw

Hi Steve, you live quite near to me I see. Interesting that you have a couple of aeropiccola saws. I've never owned a larger machine so I don't know how they compare, so your comments are quite useful to me. At the moment I don't need anything any bigger, but it does seem that of the bigger...

    Jointing Bent Plywood

Hi, I used to work with a man who did this sort of work, & he actually used TWO sheets of ply glued, & then bent to shape with the glue still wet, & leaving an overlap on each end. It used to work very well, but I don't know if that method is still used today.

    Vibrosaw

Hi, I'm pretty new to scrollsaws, but thought I'd try one, as I make small hardwood & brass ornamental models etc. I recently bought an 'Aeropiccola Vibro' electromagnetic scroll saw on eBay for less than £20, & it works beautifully on the sort of materials I use, (usually hardwoods up to 1/2"...

My names Neil, I'm a woodturner.

Hi Neil, Welcome back to normal living. I too had a mental breakdown whilst living abroad, followed by a relatively minor stroke. Lost interest in everything until returning to the UK & going back to work for my old employer, even though I was 65 at the time. It was the best thing I ever did...

    Chuck Accessories / Thread Sizes

They have probably supplied the wrong model which is what happened to me when I bought a DMT450 from Screwfix, there are TWO models, one with a 1"x8 thread & one with an M33x3.5 thread & there is opnly one digit difference in the serial numbers, e.g. 1948/1949 check your user manual, it will...

Removing a grub screw on a Union Jubilee spindle

You could try using the tang of a file which we used to do years ago. Grind the tang back until it just fits the stripped hex socket, then tap in with a MALLET, ( NOT a hammer) until it is tight. Then, using an adjustable spanner grip the file just where the tang meets the file body. I have used...

    The RED lathe FOR SALE

I wholeheartedly agree with Blister, I see nothing wrong with the ads, it is no more than people would do if gathered together at some meeting place. I managed to get a nice Multistar chuck & accessories from Mark Hancock.

Creusen HP7500TS Powerline Grinder (Slow Speed)

Used to have one, but left it Spain like a lot of other things!! when I returned to the UK. I know they are b****y expensive now!! I never used mine for normal grinding so that I could keep the wheels flat for tool grinding, but I see no reason why not. I have a Record Power 8" grinder...
