    Tyler Variable Speed Bandsaw

Hello all. This is a Tyler bandsaw which (built 1950's or so) was originally designed to run on a 'spiral cut' blade, meaning you could take the wood in and the blade would cut in any direction. Now sadly it's been converted at some point to run on standard blades and I'm not sure this has been...

    Wheee new saw!

Just picked up this gem that I found on Gumtree. Tyler bandsaw, 15 inch wheels. I'd never heard of them but apparently they invented a spiral cutting blade (much like the multi-cut scroll saw blades). This one has been converted to run normal blades though, needs a little fettling and a new blade :D

    Turning Excercise

Just a bit of a play about, learning more about turning. Made a trammel for scribing out large circles. Knurled bit on the top rotates as you swing an arc.

    A Really Rather Pleasing Puchase

I don't post very often, I enjoy browsing and learning but I thought I would share with you something I managed to obtain yesterday. I frequent the local auction house and spend perhaps 70% of the time in the Garage and Workshop section, there's usually something fun to be had, and so this came...

    A Terrible Waste

Not the best subject for a post, as I imagine a number of you will be as annoyed as I was today when I saw this. A little background; My girlfriend is an apprentice joiner, and as it so happens her mum works at the college where she did her first year (a building owned by the college, which is...

    A Few Veneers

Got lucky today. Someone who I used to work with (at company next door to where I currently work) popped in with a few veneers he'd been given, to give to me. Apparently he'd mentioned it before but I had completely forgotten. Yeah there's er, just a few. Box on the left is the box I was given...

Bit of life back into a BS

Picked up a RP RSBS10 at local auction yesterday to compliment a seemingly ever growing collection of machines. Two things of note. The table was showing a good film of surface rust and other marks (including dried on glue.. why?!) as well as missing a guide roller. So, doors off, table off...

    Bit of daftness

This started as an "I wonder if" and it turns out that I can. The bullet itself is walnut, 9mm dia (obviously) with 10mm visible and a 7.5mm dia spigot at 5mm long into the casing. Casing is oak (which turned out to be a poor choice as grain lifted) and is 10mm dia at 20mm long. All features...

    Pot Pourri Bowl

Hello :) Started this bowl yesterday with the aim of getting it finished today as its a Mothers Day present. I've been turning for just over a year so still a little bit cautious. I quite possibley may be coming up with ideas far above my skill level so tend to go a bit slower whilst I get it...

    A Chisel Question

Hello there :) Pretty random question I guess but I'd like some advice and ideas on something. I have two sets of chisels; I have this Crown set And I have this Hamlet set: As you can see both sets come with a 12mm skew and a 3mm parting chisel. Two of each is a bit useless since I only...

Matts Workshop. Long load of pics (Sorry)

This is basically a thread in which I'm throwing pictures into to catalogue and display the little area in which I make... stuff... out of wood and metal. Its not the biggest nor the best compared to some of the awesome spaces others on here have but I'm making it useable and I hope you enjoy...

    Lathe Help

Hello all. Not sure quite how to put all this so I'll keep it simple and as short as possible. I have a Record Power DML36SH and I have a few problems with it. I purchased it in January 2013 and around 6 months later it developed a problem whereby the handle on the toolrest banjo would no...
