I don't post very often, I enjoy browsing and learning but I thought I would share with you something I managed to obtain yesterday.

I frequent the local auction house and spend perhaps 70% of the time in the Garage and Workshop section, there's usually something fun to be had, and so this came home with me.

Now I had been after a combination plane for quite some time and to get something this complete is just fantastic.
I'm sure those who know more than I will know this is a Record 405 Multiplane, and I'm pleased to say that it's (as far as I know) a complete earlier model.

I'll just stick the pictures up.

Two points though
1) I know the depth stop is on backwards. I've since turned this round to its correct place.
2) It also came with a Stanley 79 which is in fantastic condition as well.

The 405 can be a godsend for small amounts of special molding sections. Do you have the round/hollows bases as well? Those increase the versatility a lot. (Need the relevant blades as well, of course :D )

The optional extra "special irons" can be found on fleabay but are pretty expensive, about £80 has been the average for the last year. I'm on the look out for them all the time to try and complete my 405. The reeding irons are available individually and as set up to 5 bead wide. and are available as 1/8 or 1/4 sizes. 26 additional cutters were available for the 405. Its been a while since a set has been on you know where. here are a couple of sites that have blades from time to time:
